Gertz Grows - 2nd Grow - More Nirvana Mystery Seeds

Hey everyone

The first grow is a wrap and can be seen in my signature, warning, there are very few pictures and I didnt post the last 2 months of flowering...I need to be better about pictures and posting.

I learnt a lot from the first grow;

  • My grow space is limited to a small tent
    • I let them veg too long, during flowering the stretched pretty far and burnt themselves on the light...I couldnt control it.
    • Instead this time I will be vegging out the plants and then cloning them and flipping as soon as there are roots...going SOG with Gatorade bottles turned into hempy buckets...making lollipops...32 of them
  • Heat
    • I was able to vent the tent okay and keep it at about 82 degrees but I need to vent the closet the tent is in.
    • I will be adding some passive vent holes in the closet ceiling, if it doesnt work than I am going to add an additional fan that vents out the closet
  • Sativa's Dont Work
    • The 4 mystery seeds turned out to be mainly Sativa's...they got too big for me
  • Going Hempy
    • To maximize space Im going hempy this time rather than soil.
    • Really this is just to try the other spectrum, I dont have enough experience to have a preference
  • Using Nutes
    • Instead of feeding I added food and castings to the soil mix and left it alone other than water
    • With the switch to hempy I will be feeding nutes, using the Lucas method
  • Timer
    • I need to be better about the on/off times for the light...during the 12/12 cycle I was running during weird times and Im sure my wife opening and closing the closet likely fucked the time up a few times...I think this may have been one of my bigger problems on my first grow.
  • Patience
    • I could have let it go another week or two and seen if it got any better...there were so many problems though I just wanted to restart
With all that said...4 more mystery seeds are down this afternoon.

Ill do 24 hours in the soak, 24 hours in a towel, and assuming the all sprout they will go into little jiffy cubes before going into the hempy buckets.

From here I will be cutting at the 3rd node, and every other node after that to make some bushes. This will continue until they are large enough to take about a dozen cuttings in one go.

Once the cuttings take root than we flip right to 12/12 to make lollipops.

Round 2 - Day 2

Round 2 - Day 2

Instead of 24 hours, they stayed in the cup for 36...I took a trip with the family for the day and didn't get back until late afternoon.

Its an easy day, wet down the paper towel and drop the seeds in the middle.

After that was done I put them back in the tent. 2 of the 4 are cracked already. Hopefully the remaining beans crack and grow shoots in the next day or two.

Then its into the jiffy pellets

Have a good night everyone

Round 2 - Day 3 - We have tails!

Round 2 - Day 3 - We have tails!

Hey everyone

Quick update, 12 hours into the paper towel and 2 seeds have tails (top) and the other two (bottom) you can see have cracked.

Going to give them another day and put them into jiffy's tomorrow afternoon. I assume by that time all of them will have tails.

Fingers crossed for another seed that had the heavier indica traits.

enjoy

Day 4 - Into the Tent

Day 4 - Into the Tent

Its Day 4...well two days ago it was, I got busy at work and couldnt post.

They all have legs! Time to plant them in Jiffy Pellets

For me I added a small bit of super-thrive to distilled water and soaked the pellets...not a lot, like two drops

After about 5 minutes the pellets soaked up most of the liquid and I dropped the beans legs down into the openings and gave a little squeeze to try and surround them a bit.

Then into the tent it goes

Man I have lost track of time because of work...its actually going fairly well right now. I got a rough start and lost one of the seedlings and also could not maintain the plants in coco very well so I swapped to soil again.

I let the plants grow for about 2 months, topping every 2-3 nodes until they bushed out and then took 8 clones off each of the remaining three plants. Let them root and planted them in 4" square pots. As soon as I planted the rooted cuttings I flipped to 12/12, that was about a week ago.

I also need to install the fan to vent the closet to try and reduce temperatures further. still in the high 80's normally

Quick update

So out of the four original plants one bit the dust after an extended business trip and not being able to maintain coco as well as I can soil. When I got back I replanted in soil...this was late June to mid-July sometime I cant recall now.

After replanting they took off, I grew them out topping every 2 to 3 nodes and then cut 8 clones from each in mid-August.

Late August all but one rooted and they got planted in smaller 4" square pots. Once I saw some growth I flipped to 12/12...that was about a week or so ago.

This week they showed...quickly and they are growing fast again.

This is the whole garden

Plant 1 is a female...sativa like traits

Plant 2 is a female...more indica leaning, short and squat but sativa like leaf structure

Plant 3 is a male and very lean and sativa like

Im leaving one male clone and cutting the rest today. I only have 2 seeds left and need to try and get some more before I run dry completely. Still in practice mode so I dont want to invest in $10/each seeds until I feel good about it.
