Germination advice wanted

Let's try to get off to a good start.

I'm about to embark on a first grow, autoflower seeds destined to go straight into soil, 3 gallon pots to be their homes from start to finish, no transplanting. I've noticed people starting off in Jiffy's or some such starter medium often under a dome for a more humid environment. Does it make any sense, if I'm popping seed into soil to cover the pot with plastic wrap to get that same humidity?

turtle,
You're going to have to be very, very careful with watering at first. I suggest you germinate them in beer cups, and grow them till they are fully rooted, meaning that they are rooted well enough in the 16 oz cups that the root ball will come out of the pot intact, roots holding the medium together, then you'll be able to do an easy, no risk transplant into 3 gal. You may put a pencil sized stake to hold the plastic off the seedling, but snot necessary. Simply dribble a little water to keep a 2" sq area around seed moist. Do this only if you see the surface starting to dry. Good luck. -granger
