What you guys think about honda Generator EB5000X? anyone use this? It's a 5,000w generator my friend is interested in buying one to use for 2,000w or more if possible / 12hr use during flowering with 1000w or 600w HPS.....Any tips or comments or previous use any of you have with this generator? Feel free to drop your two cents.....peace:joint:

Sorry i can't give an input on this although i too, would like to know more about these. It would be great to have a remote grow pulling a couple lbs every couple months if you still made a big enough profit to make it worth the hassle.

Is that a diesel?, you cant run gas ones continously, only diesels are meant to be used for continous power with just regular filter and oil changes. If you buy a generator id buy a whisperwatt there whats used on construction sites for big projects, very reliable. You should probably give 1600 watts for every 1000w light, dont overload it.

$2500 and you have to fill it every day, sounds like a lot of work. if this was an attemp to be covert, i would not recommend it. if no electricity avail. then maybe.

i have never used a generator, but i dont think this would be a good option for a grow. just my :2cents:

good luck if ya go for it and keep us posted

it will cost alot in gas im guessing atleast a gallon or 2 a day figure 2.00 a gallon x 60 days for just flowering could be 150 to 300+ in gass

I always thought it would be fun to grow somewhere in alaska thats very remote with generators. Also i think fuel would be not that bad, just buy one or two 50 gallon barrels and your set for a grow. As for the kind of generators used, for big grows i've seen industrial generators, but thats probably overkill. If i was going to get one for a grow i would spend $3,000-5,000 on a good diesel generator.

I know in Canada you can get away with living in a house and running 8-9 kw, gotta remember tv's these days are 1000 watts, gaming computer can be running 1000 watt power supply, a oil heater in each room can run 1500 watts and you can have quite a few of those in a house even if its not very big, baking shit in your oven, it all adds up, if you have a shop on a seperate service thats a machine shop well... you can really juice it up.

I really only think a generator is needed if its 10+ im guessing but im sure people get away with 15kw. If your really juicing it the worst thats gonna happen is they call a fire chief/inspector over to make sure theres no fire hazards in the house, they give you 24 hour notice if you dont comply they cut your power until you let them in, so that just means you gotta get rid of your shit, but thats just a little loophole for them to find out stuff out, obviously with a huge power draw they suspect a grow op, but doesn't mean they can bust you for using power. Just dont steal it, if you wanna avoid those inspections with a big op than sure a generator with ventilation and a big 1000 gallon tank running a flip flop system is the way to go.

This scheme reminds me of a line from Seinfeld - "This has got disaster written all over it!"

Sometimes when looking for the answer it's important to understand the question.

I agree. A 5000 w gas generator is going to cause a lot of disappointment. My neighbor is a mechanic who has a gas well on his property. He's trying to run a lot of his house on his 7500w generator which he easily modified to run on natural gas. It frequently goes back under warranty for major repairs; he says he'll keep taking it back until they give him his money back. His problem is simple; homeowner small generators cannot take the pounding brought on by weeks of regular use.
We had large diesel gensets when I was in the Army. They never worked well either; we kept 2 because one was always down.

Alot of great comments all, I relize the generator cannot be run at full capacity, I was thinking running 3-5kw on the house, and 2-3kw on the generator (5,000w) one...The reason I chose this is because someone was selling a used one for less than half the price fo the retailed version its already gone but I still think this thread is good we dont have much generator threads and I believe they can be very useful....escpacily if you have to run alot, Im pretty sure its electric start and gasoline fueled 6.6gallon tank full.....very good poins AntiMatter, I am aware of the 24 hour notice and yes it is possible to run alot in Canada, but I think it would be noticable if the last person runs little than energy consumption just doubles or some shit, I was also looking at some digital super-quite ones I`m gonna check out the whisper thing thank you for your comments antimatter, to Clackas I know the questions was kind of broad....It was just a quckie wanted to know what you guys thought about more specificly the make or if anyone used this one, I don`t think a good line generator like Honda will have that much problems running at half capacity or less..anyways thanks all peace ;)

If it's a gas generator, it will have trouble running at half capacity for 12 hours.

To go generator, you have to get 2 diesel generators. Not really worth it unless you're going pretty big.

This is possible but not with gasoline.

cool 5k generator

you can get a tri-fuel generator that runs on gas,PROPANE or Natural gas.
So you could get one of those big tanks delivered and then you generator off Propane. and no you can not use the one from your grill. :)

But You might have a Problem with the neighbors if your running a generator continuously.

Peace

actually there are a couple threads that went into alot of detail on generators.

IMO, its not even worth the effort to run 2-3KW off a generator

aH, Finally I was waiting for someone like you to post in my thread ... I've read much of your work YaMAHA your a good fellow ... My friend wanted to run; a smaller ammount around 5kw on the generator, after reading alot of posts, doing some research and thinking, I think there just going to do some flip-flop, since this will only be around 10,000w something like your room Yamaha ;) Yamaha you mind if I send you a private message? thanks all for replies this thread has been helpful (my frist) Ill be starting another thread into the research/growth of a veg cab, a couple hundred sprouts, possibly some cloning, but I really want to show you guys 50-100 AF strain that has just been started anyways take care all peace~

all i can say is it is possible with that gen. it will not save you any money vs. just paying the electric bill. what it does do for you of course is get you off the grid or in your case allow for more power. you will have to get the engine rebuilt on that honda unit every cycle. like most people have said they are not meant for 12 hours a day for 60 to 75 days. also factor in oil changes per cycle. what about if it goes down? also you will have to be around to stop it and refuel or make/adapt a bigger fuel tank to make it through a 12 hour cycle or more? what about storing lots of gas. like i said i've seen it done but it's not for everybody.
how about a deisel gen and power it with a bio-deisel fuel so the exhaust smells like chicken and frys or chinese food. or smell is not a problem for you.
hey what about hydrogen powered fuel cell cars hmm..... now we're thinking. i'll strip that bitch for the fuel cell but then i'll have no warranty and no car to use after the lights turn off.

u need to have the right generator man! www.centralmainediesel.com 15000w honda runs all day, built for it!

15000watt generator covert it to LP then you get 4 big 60lb tanks, pretty heavy but if your young an strong u can pick it up yourself!! that will b enough to last 1 week on 12/12!! at the end of the month i was paying $800 for fuel, in the house i had 8000watts not including the 4 blowers, cdmc7 36burner, all the aeroponic tables... had to b close to 9000-10000.... fact of the matter $800 a month on gen... vs 900 a month on electricity was a lot of work but definitly pays off!!! especially out here on the east coast where they come knocking for electric spikes... i had no problems w the gen except for the spark plug needed to b change once a week, along w oil, other then that shit was solid, i even built a silenced ac cooled box outside to put it in!!!
