I haven't seen anything about pest control. Neem seed meal is an essential component of any soil recipe I use. Insects (spider mites especially) don't like plants that have neem in the veins and it's also a good source of nitrogen. Neem is very stinky and can carry over into the taste of the finished product so don't overdo it.

The Clackamas Coot's soil mix recipe gets NPK from Neem, Kelp, and Crab Meal and is a great foundation for a water only soil mix. Coot's recipe combines some of the stinkiest amendments known to man but it will mellow out after a couple of weeks of simmering into the overall mix.

Also, when mixing organic amendments or stirring up your soil in any way wear a mask to avoid inhaling the finer grained components that can float in the air, such as perlite and various calcium and other mineral sources. These days everyone has a mask. Use it when working with your soil. There's some things in soil your body can't break down. You don't want that shit getting in your lungs.

A thousand gallon tea brewer is overkill. It does get redundant and overused. It’s not a cure all. There’s other means of supplying microbes. That doesn’t make it worthless. There are documented benefits.
