I haven't met a huge number of trans people, neither have you. All I can go on is the studies I've read, not anecdotes. I'm sure there are happy and unhappy trans people. Anyone who lives a different life than the majority of people will have difficulties. I'm glad I didn't have to go through what some gay people I grew up in the 70s did. However, they are totally accepted now, as should trans people be.

Voting is compulsory where I live, but even if it wasn't I'd always vote. For most of us, decisions that politicians make, directly effect us. Maybe not so much if you spend your days running around hills (half your luck).

I think the way the discussion has been framed around children is just hiding a general contempt of trans. To me it sticks out like dogs balls. We aren't talking about little children anyway, we are talking about teens, who should be involved in decisions about their own lifestyle and health choices. If they, and their parents agree on medical intervention, then I see no issue.
