Hello,

i am a european grower looking for help with 2 strains. Here in my country we mostly grow hybrids from dutch companies, because those plants can handle the weather here best. An good strain for me will start flowering in beginning of August and finish end of September. If the weather is perfect (very rare), even mid to end October can be possible, but that is risky...

So now it happened that i am just tired of all these dutch strains and want to try something new. I have a pack of GDP and a pack of PU but not sure which one to germinate...

Is there anyone with experience in growing one of these strains outdoors? if so, it would be very interesting for me to know your lattitude too.

I cant find any information about these strains in the grow forum of my country, maybe because they seem to be popular only is the US... So thats why now i registered in an english forum :)

Weather here is bad and late strains are risky, so i would like to know which strain has the better chance to ripen.

Sorry for the language and also sorry if i posted this in the wrong section, im just new here and still trying to figure out how icmag works

Thanks in advance,

- Kokolores

i live in a northern climate zone with a dutch-like weather

GDP in general is known to be sensitive to mold once in full flower, so for that info alone I'd probably vote for the Urkle. However the two lines are likely related, containing old PNW purples of Afghan origin, so they will act similarly. I haven't grown either outdoors though.

That's funny Breadwizard I was about to say the opposite, that the Urkle was mold sensitive. I've grown it in the PNW and it had trouble because the flowers are dense. But the truth is both are boytritis susceptible. Last year I had a Querkle x GDP that molded badly, but it was a bad year.

I'm at 47 degrees N. It really depends on timing and luck. I've grown a lot of purple plants from the California purple lineages. Grape Apes, Mendocino purples, querkles, Urkles. With varying amounts of success. I've had the most success with Grape Ape hybrids, probably because I got them from a fine local breeder and they were hybridized with another early strain. By early I mean late September/early October. I've also had ones that finished in mid October. The early finishers generally do better but sometimes the late ones come through. This is true for all the purple varieties.

It seems like the Urkles didn't really finish until mid October, the GDPs a week or two before. They're all worth trying and it depends on the individual plants. My experience is that if you plant 5 for instance you usually get 2 that do great, 2 that are in the middle and one that gets hit hard. I'm leaning towards the GDP but it could go either way, the Urkle could finish a week earlier and do better. Depends on luck and your experience. I think if you're used to Dutch strains you'll do fine.

These are generalizations, Urkle tends to grow one main stalk, very little branching. GDP tends to get bigger and bushier. Good luck I hope they come through. It's very late to be starting seeds, you're pushing it if you're starting them now.

You'd know more than I with outdoors, Rev. Maybe it's just that the GDP cup that floats around here is such a notorious molder.
