GDK Tries Coco.....Again.

Hey cocoists.
Id thought id document my second try with coco with a thread. My coco debut did not go very well due to several issues, but i learned alot and i hope ill improve both quality and quantity this time. I built a DTW table to lift the pots off the cold concrete floor and reduced the footprint with the same wattage, to blast the plants with more light. I was covering a 4x12 area with 3x600w, but reduced it to 4x8. Heres the stats:

Hardware:
3x600w aircooled HPS
750 m3/h controlled fan pulling outside air thru hoods
750 m3/h controlled/temp regulated fan pulling ouside air thru the room
portable ac if needed
oscillating fan

Medium:
Plagron Coco mixed 50/50 with perlite

Nutes:
Canna Coco A+B
Plagron Roots
AN Jumpstart
Aptus Regulator
Aptus Startbooster
Aptus Topbooster
Aptus CaMg Boost
Aptus K Boost
Aptus Super PK
Atami Ataclean

Strains:
4 x Sour Kush (my select holy grail cut of JLP´s work)
3 x Sour D (cut of Reservoirs work)

Ill be handwatering with RO+tap mixed to ec .4, and following Canna and Aptus´ feeding schedules in combination. Im hoping to do something similar to Adrift, only using a single 4x8 DTW table with 3x6´s instead of 2x1k. Lately i have been struck by a cloning curse, so there will only be 7 plants, even tho i would have liked 10-12..oh well. They have been veggin 10 days sharing a 400w MH with the mothers, but i moved em under one of the 6´s today...i plan to give em a week under one light and then spread em out and veg em for another week or 2 under the full 1800w. I think im gonna transplant them to their final homes(3gals) tomorrow. Id love to hear ideas and suggestions so dont be shy...

GDK, how well does the tarp hold up? I would guess that after a while under the light that it would eventually get wore out. I've made my own tables before, and found that the rolls of 6mil black plastic "dropcloth" you can find in home depot paint dept works wonders. Hard as all hell to puncture or tear accidentally, and will last a long time. If the tarp works well though, that's pretty dope.

I'm looking forward to your grow, man. Keep the updates coming :)

ive had excellent results with g.o. bio thrive and cal mag in coco. ive also run flora nova bloom. the best results(less nutrient problems in coco was the g.o line). with the chem salts, it seemed one always threw another out of proportion and caused a lockout.

Hey man....I'm watching. Thinking of playing around a bit with some Coco plants myself. I'll be watching your progress and taking notes of the rights and wrongs you learn getting your feet wet. ;)

I suspect you are right about the tarp degrading from light and water...i just lined the table with tarp because my order of pondliner didnt arrive yet..i dont think a cpl of cycles would wear out the tarp tho..thanks for stopping by man..

What up F.A.M..thanks for stopping by..you should go ahead and try the coco..even tho results was less than impressive my first round, i did however see the amazing abilities coco has..just have to learn how to treat it right..i hope this thread will be of use to you and many others, hopefully compiling some tips and tricks from the community...

Hey bro..just popcorn and no dabs? j/k...good ta have ya holmes..

My thoughts exactly, a lot of money there too ..... just hope they're worth it
Hey Doc..thanks for stopping by. Im not sure i feel a negative tone, but if it puts your mind a little at ease, i can tell you that the Aptus products are free samples given to me along with a buncha merchandise. I do however, have a feeling that i will be dropping the cash for their products in the future. Compare dilution ratios and price, and youll find that it really isnt as expensive as it might look at the first glance. If im wrong about the negativity, please excuse me and forget what i wrote. I hope to see you pop in again during the course of the thread:tiphat:

so nice watchin...
Gracias familia...good to see ya here

Looking very sharp man :p
Good luck with your project (;
Thanks Gov..

Transplanted to 3 gals today..im still debating whether to top em or maybe tie em dowm..More pics soon.

Looking good GDK, are you going to build a drip system? How often will you be watering? Feeding in coco 3-5 times per day with run off has incresed my yields by at least 30%.

Hi there GDP,
I've been following you efforts taking on coco, and must say that you honesty is much appreciated, and helping me to learn.
What happens ime with packed water, is that excess calcium throws of magnesium causing def.
When this is once realised, the plants have allready been feeding slowly causing buildup=imbalances=ph++++.
According to the water print out, in your bicarb thread, there is a 6:1 relationship in calcium/magnesium.
If you add your own cal-mag the relationship is 3:1.
Why not play it safe, and cut out tap alltogether?

When treating coco as dirt, watering every 2-3 days, one can get away with not using ro using the 0,9 soup background lime groundwater. Only experiencing minor issues.
But doing it the hydro way, one is in for a buildup, having packed, inbalanced water like that.
I'm using canna aswell, and have had fails because of buildups.
Now I allmost failed trying to avoid buildups feeding too lightly.
"The canna dilemma"
A lot of growers say don't feed more than 1,4 ec in veg.
With canna, this is the absolute minimum, when following their guide.

Watering stragegy is a major element also.

Anyways, I have no intend launcing any discussion here, but very interested in knowing how you go about it.

Best of luck dialing in.

Will be dialing along right with you.
