Gavita Question

I have a short ceiling so I can only run 600's so

Would it be better to get the DE1000's and run them at 6

or just get the 6's

I will be at this spot for another year

i asked this before in the gavita thread - 1000s have to run at 1000 for a couple hours(to a couple days?) when breaking them in... and then can be turned down to 600

it would be better to run the 600s at 600

Right here, homie

You can see the efficacy drops when dimmed, but stays the same on overdrive

Dog that chart is from 2015
It says so right the fuck on it!
Are you saying that the bulbs no longer require to be powered to 100% to perform 100%?
Peace

To give a more specific answer - It would be better to run the 600's at 660! You would want to raise them just a little higher, but you would get better uniformity.

The difference being is that Gavita's strength comes from being run in multiples with the light overlapping. As a stand alone it is impressive, it is however, impractical for the average closet/tent/cabinet/closet/bedroom grower. The height restriction reduces its optimum footprint and the light output has to suffer for it. Rendering your exotic and powerful light into something not so great. Almost every person that asks about the Gavita is missing out on that basic fundamental. Height is just as crucial with dealing with these lights as your nute ratios are. The average grower has at max an 8' ceiling to work with. So that in and of itself just made it impractical. You need 9'. Minimum. Then there is no light on the market today that I feel can beat it that is easily accessible to the average grower and even more so for the ones on a very tight budget to take such a financial risk as this.
However, I do have it on a very good source that the future of grow lights that will be breaking the 1000w barrier will be from double ended lamps. Not only that, but you will all soon see ballast companies come out with matched bulbs. There are companies that are already doing that and the list will start to expand as proprietary based equipment allow for better stability and performance.
I believe that for 99% of the growers that are using HID lighting could benefit the most out of their current setup is to take advantage of as many new tech spectrums as possible. Multiple bulbs with multiple spectrums that would have to be switched out at pre-established time periods for optimum results. Pain in the ass? You bet. But are the end results worth it? Guess we will all have to find out.

All lighting systems will benefit greatly from overlapping.
At $450-500 you cant beat the gavita1K.
The bulb life span alone is worth the price and its still brighter than a new hortilux after 1 year.
Throw in the best reflector and ballast out there and they are tuned to eachother.
Another added bonus is you dont have some big ass hood.
The only downside I can see is that the spectrum of the bulb needs supplementing.
They might not be perfect for smaller setups, but they throw a lot more light than my blockbuster/lumitek/hortilux combo.
The buds seem to like the lights further away anyway.
I have 9' to work with so its all good over here. I just cant throw in a plasma or MH to supplement the gavitas because that would over saturate my space.
Those colors require more energy to produce, so the gavita throws out more of the other colors in the spectrum that are more efficient.

So I have a question on this subject. I understand the DE cannot be run in a vertical orientation, however I was considering rotating the reflector to run the bulb still in a horizontal orientation but used in a vertical application, throwing it's light on just one wall. In my imagination if I did this I could strap a couple plants to a wall and grow them to my 7' ceiling while keeping the Gavita the proper distance throughout the grow. This way I would have a vertical scrog blasted by the Gavita throughout, optionally I could put a shelf on the wall midway up and have a dual level for smaller plants. Does this seem reasonable? Anyone doing this?

Thanks for the info Coconutz,
so would the 600 put out a umol/W of 1.84? (1190 umol/s/645 actual wattage) or 1.98 (1190/600 advertised watts)
thanks jay, didn't see that in the gavita thread

will have some overlap, im running 4 lights
