Gassy, Fuel and Diesel...one flavor or 3?

Are these terms all used to describe the same flavor? I'm trying to settle a bet....

If not, how would you describe the difference between the 3?

I feel like not all gassy weed tastes like diesel, but my friend says they're two words for the same thing, and at the same time I'm having trouble putting into words what I mean by the difference even though I feel like I know...

Does that make sense? My Dosidos that I'm about to light up for example I find Gassy but not at all Diesel...Am I crazy?

HELP!!

Perception. Everybody is wired differently, so we perceive things differently. I'm one of those people that perceive Cilantro to taste like soap, so in my opinion, they are all linked, but Fuelly is how I'd describe Diesel or Gas. They both smell (to me) like fuel. That's just me. Your perception of smell is different to mine. I could say it smells like pine and lemon. You could say it smells of Gas and menthol. It's subjective, but that's my opinion.

Personally, I think that there's Ethereal, like spirits, menthol, turpentine, it's a base that has more in common with feelings than smells, like something warming or cooling.

Gassy is similar to that.. and Diesel adds a few aromas on top of that gassy aroma

people are different, I grew cherry pie x dosidos, I found it to smell like fuel with cherries, but not gassy LOL. sour diesel seems to me much more gassy.

Are there any American diesels out there that actually smell like real diesel?Only plants I've ever smelled with real diesel smell are the ruby red grapefruit cut of soma's NYCD and an auto line made from the cut.

As far as I can see it, most people use these terms interchangeably. Not only because people perceive smells differently, but because "the weed 'community'" has established these terms to describe a certain category of smells that shares some similarities with the aromas of "fuels", such as gas or diesel. And like burningfire already said: It seems to be about the way it feels when you smell it and about what other smells you associate with that specific feeling.

So in my opinion, most of the times people speak about a strain smelling like "fuel", "gas" or "diesel", it's not about the strain actually smelling like the one or the other (although it may seem like it because you don't directly compare it to the smell of gas for example). It's about communicating to others that the aroma of a strain has a quality to it that is similar to the quality of the aroma of fuels.

Edit (I just noticed I haven't actually even tried to answer your question^^): For me personally, "diesel" differs from "gas" insofar as it seems to have a some 'meaty' aspects to it as well as it has some more "bright" overtones - not really sour, but a little more aggressive and pungent top-notes.

"Gas" on the other hand lacks these sharp tones and has more of a 'cold', ethereal, 'hollow' smell to it.

"Fuel", for me, is just the general term to describe these kinds of smells.

Jet fuel is different from kerosene is different from nitro is different from petrol is different from biodiesel is different from lemon fuel is different from sour nostril burn, but I'd call them all fuely.

Alot of non-pot people call unflushed weed "gassy" because they can't tell the difference between "sweet" "gassy" and "plasticy".

Same people will call neem/canola bud skunky or perfumed bud dank.
