Heya OG, I've also used those 250cfm suncourt fans (actual cfm is 160). It was a pretty damn loud fan; i could hear it from outside of my grow room. Do you notice the fan noise of the elicient when youre outside your grow room?

Day 9 - First Sun Leaf Trimming

Day 9 - First Sun Leaf Trimming

The tops of my ladies got their first sun leaf trim this morning, and I also spent some time threading the stems through the screen. Before I started scrogging, I did some SOG grows and never trimmed sun leaves. But scrog leaves me no option, the lower branches need light.

'sup Pontiac. Yea, those Suncourt fans are cheap, but they can get loud. They seem to get unbalanced and then sound like a faulty fan, quite noticeable.

This centrifugal fan has a lower pitch noise, and sounds more like something you'd expect to hear in a garage that contains a furnace. It's less noticeable. The real test is going to be at 8 weeks when the buds are at their most fragrant, but I'm confident the negative pressure in the shed will keep my garage smelling innocent. Vortex and Fantech make similar ones.

You could use a speed controller, but another ICer warned me that it will reduce motor life so I'm trying it out at full-speed for now, so far, so good. You may be able to muffle the fan noise, if you use it in living quarters.

i have the elicent 6" also. i love it.
it keeps things real nice and cool all the time and is nice and quite.
i need to seal mine up a bit more, as it is being a little too loud for my likings.

Day 14 - Second Sun Leaf Trim

Day 14 - Second Sun Leaf Trim

The 4 ladies are doing well, and definitely into their early flowering growth spurt. There are a few pistil hairs coming out, but fewer that I seem to remember at this point during previous grows. I'm still aiming for a Nov 21 chop...we'll see.

Trimmed again last night and tucked all the stems back under. Veging until the screen is at least half-filled was definitely the right move.

The new fan is working great, and the recharged C filter hides the cannabis smell in the exhaust :woohoo:

I've noticed some small flying insects in my cab, but not sure what they are and these are the first insects during a year of growing. I reused some Hydroton from a retired mother in this grow, and I remember the mother had similar insects. But I boiled the Hydroton for 10+ minutes, that would kill it don't you think...?

Day 22 - Res Change

Day 22 - Res Change

Girls are doing real nice. Veging until half the screen was covered was definitely the right thing to do. Some side branches are popping up from the early flowering growth spurt, but I've got lots of space still to raise the light, so I don't anticipate any issues.

I love the 6" Elicent fan! The glass shield in front of the bulb is now cool to the touch. The fan had been following the same on/off schedule as the light. Today there was a definite noticeable cannabis smell in the garage during lights off, but turning the fan on for 15 minutes took care of the problem. It's getting cooler now, so the A/C is off.

Day 22 - Taking clones

Day 22 - Taking clones

Though I will not need new clones until the last week of November, I took 8 today from my mother in preparation. I know it's early, but I want to get them started and rooted so I can put them into my clone and mom cab in the garage. There's heating mat under the flat, and I'm keeping it covered in a humidity dome.

Day 33 - Res change

Day 33 - Res change

The garden is doing great, as you can see. The tops are still stretching, but this strain is usually slowing down and starting to fill out by this time. Chicken wire definitely beats string for a scrog net. This crop has the potential to be my highest yielding yet. I used string to tie down some of the lankiest tops after I took this photo.

A house guest arrives in a couple of days, and I'm not going to have any garden access for 2 weeks and the garden goes into stealth mode. To cut down on the potential for smells in the garage, I sent my mother to compost and just have 5 babies in the mom cab. Top right is a Mango, bottom right is a Sensi Star. The others are my tried and true Indica that I've been growing for the past year+.

Check out the rootball on my mom. I use mini-grodan cubes at the bottom of the pot, roots love them!

Nice looking scrog.. Hopefully I can get my scrog going and hopefully mine will look as good as yours is looking,

Day 50 - Res change, cloning moms

Day 50 - Res change, cloning moms

Garden is doing well as we enter the eight week of flowering. Bud development seems to be a little behind schedule relative to previous grows of this strain, but the volume easily surpasses any of my previous scrog grows. I turned the lights to 12/12 just at the right time to maximize my grow space. There is only about 2" left to raise the HPS!!

The tops are about 14" to 16" above the scrog screen. The smell is great, and my C filter is doing it's job. I didn't have access to my plants for the previous 10 days, but ebb and flow is such a butt-simple hydro method nothing got screwed up. Current res temp is 64 F (18 C) according to my cheap pool thermometer. What is the ideal res temp for an ebb and flow grow? I'm wondering if it's time to turn on the aquarium heater.
The clones for the next crop are also doing well. From left, three unknown indica, a mango and a sensi star.

I also took some cuttings of the mango and sensi star for mothers, and cloned some roses and jasmine at the same time for my legit garden. The cuttings are under a humidity dome, with a heat mat underneath.

Since I've mixed indoor and outdoor plants, I'd like to dunk the clones in a miticide before moving them to my mother or flowering room. Where do you get miticide, any product recommendations or suggestions for a natural home remedy?

Peace OGP

Day 56 - Slow bud development?

Day 56 - Slow bud development?

Well, we're at the end of eight weeks of flowering and the buds seem less developed and mature than previous grows. There aren't many red pistil hairs, and bud development seems kinda sparse (though this strain isn't a high yielder, I picked it for its sweet high, and squat growth pattern). I'll give them another week before starting the usual 10-day flush. They're extending up to 18 " above the scrog screen. Wire is definitely better than string for the screen. Night temperatures are getting cooler so I turned on my aquarium heater to keep the res warm, but I need to test it some more.

I added my 150 HPS light to my veg chamber for side lighting. To accommodate some holiday season travel, I have to ensure my next crop has stopped stretching by Xmas Eve. I figure 5 weeks of flowering should be safe, so I'm going to turn the new ones to 12/12 on Nov 17, even though I can't move them into the flowering room until maybe a week later when I harvest.

Day 62 - Final flush, almost there

Day 62 - Final flush, almost there

Just finished the 9th week of flower, and changed out the res with clean water for the final flush. I'm planning on a 10-day flush, so tentative harvest is postponed to ~ 11/28.

Red hairs are still kinda scarce, far fewer than this point in past grows. Anybody have ideas what might postpone (or prolong) bud development? The top buds are also stretching and a little scrawny. Before I turned on the aquarium heater, the res temp probably was ~62F, is this too cold for ebb and flow? My other theory is that maybe I didn't trim enough sun leaves and the buds didn't get enough intense light, but that's doubtful too  I chose this strain over 3 others from a random seed purchase because it was easy to grow, didn't take too long and I liked the taste and stone, but it is a low yielder, no doubt about it.

I did examine the trichome development with my 100X Radio Shack microscope. One bud sample had about 50/50 cloudy vs clear heads, while another sample's trichomes were still mostly clear.

And here's the next generation. Two of my tried-and-true indica, a Sensi Star and a Mango. I just turned these to 12/12, and will move them under the 400HPS when I harvest the others in 10 days. I needed to turn them over now, so they're finished stretching by Xmas.

Day 70+ - Chop!

Day 70+ - Chop!

This harvest I'm staggering my chop and trim over 3 days. Only enough branches needed for the day's trim are cut off the plants.

The lushness of the scrog's growth near the screen is just so thick :yoinks: . I half-expected to find a tribe living in my tropical forest, haha, fortunately no bud rot. Some of the leaves and buds showed yellowing I guess from lack of light, so I probably need to prune more agressively next time for that uniform field of colas.

I made up a batch of ice hash with the first night's trimmings, it's really powerful stuff. Will post again when I got everything jarred, and made hash from all the trim.

not bad
