Gambit Grows 2023

Happy New Year!

Have nothing in veg or flower currently as I have some cleaning/organizing to do around my house and am looking to change up/better my setup.

I have a pretty small grow area (2 x 4 tent) which actually suits my needs as I grow primarily for my own consumption, as a hobby, and hook up my friends and family. I can start seeds in another area as the tent is used pretty much for flowering and drying.

So I am looking to get more organized and improve my skills this year. I have ordered a bunch of amendments as for my next run I am looking to go organic/reused soil and work towards "living soil" although I have a bit to research left to do on all that.

I also want to create a better filter situation for my incoming air.

I am looking to use smaller pots and fit more of them into the tent and shorten up veg times.

So I probably wont be germinating any seeds for at least a month as I start getting things organized. I will be listing the equipment I use and will document my soil build as I do it, so anyone can comment, teach, and or learn from my process.

My plan is to mix up a big batch of soil and let it begin to break down organically for 3-4 weeks to get the biological processes started. Around week 3 I will germinate seeds and get them started and ready for transplants into the mix. My amendments will take another week or so to arrive.

I have a bunch of seeds/genetics I am eager to work with. My last order was with Great Lakes Genetics and big props to them for all the extra freebies. I also have my own cross I am looking to test out and will probably run a few plants outdoor with (Skywalker OG X Romulan BX1)

I have been working on selecting for heavy pine terps this past year though a couple things I am looking to grow this year will divert from that mission. Any how much (genetics) can I really hunt/preserve with a 2 x 4 tent?

I am really thankful for all the knowledge and inspiration I have found on ICMag - looking to put it to good use this year!

Mixed up some soil yesterday. Followed the 3 little birds recipe on the beginners guide to organics thread. It's sitting in a contractor bag to get the biological activity started. Started with 20 gallons used soil and 1/2'ed all the ingredients.

Will probably start seeds in 2.5 weeks.

Not much to report. I remixed my soil last night - had sort of a low tide odor going on.

Still planning to pop some new beans in a week or so, will probably wait until that cold weather finishes up in the case my heating system struggles or something.

Behind on my cleaning/organizing so hopefully I get my butt in gear. Feels like Spring is around the corner already.

Well spring is here, I didn't accomplish as much as I wanted but still got some plants going. I'll post up some pics of where I am at in the next couple of days.

Germinated:

(5) "soul mate" by Bodhi which is wookie x pinesoul
(1) "cacoon" by Bodhi which is wookie x loompa's headband
(6) Thunderfuck mountain x Harlequin

All the beans sprouted, I transplanted 10 into 2 gallon fabric pots. I may have been a little early as some of the root balls were crumbling a little during transplant. The plants seem a little shocked but are OK. A couple wavy leaves here and there and maybe a little adjusting to the soil. Hopefully not seeing early signs of a PH issue or nutrient issue.

Hoping for them to get happy in the new pots and then flip to 12/12. Its new for me trying to squeeze in more plants with less veg, want to see how that goes. I anticipate gaining some room as they show their sex and I cull the males.

This how things look currently.

To do list:

Order decent clip fan (most likely AC infinity) I like their stuff.
Construct filter box for air intake
Make compost tea bubbler

Going to flip to 12/12 in a few days

10 plants in 2 gallon pots and 2 still in yogurt containers. When I get preflowers I may attempt a switcharoo should a small pot plant be female and a 2 gallon plant be male.

Everything looks pretty good. There is a little yellowing between the leaf veins on one of the plants (2 gallon) and the ones in the small pots are not that happy about their living situation.

I think everything will work out fine once we get stabilized. They are going to get a little mist with some Epsom salt water today or tomorrow.

Peace

Plants are filling out nicely. Some really cool growth patterns on a couple. I've been 12/12 for almost a week now and only 2 confirmed ladies and one male I culled so far. Got my clip fan as well. Pics tomorrow if I can.

One of my non transplanted plants ended up being female so I'm trying a late transplant 1 week into flower. Obviously this will not be the best producer but it will be neat to track it's progress. It was in a yogurt containers as I couldn't fit all 12 in the tent in the larger 2 gallon pots.

So in the end there are:

3 soul mate fems
1 cocoon fem
4 thunder Fuck mountain x harlequin. 1 being that late transfer from the seeding pot.

Pretty much week 3 now. Did a hefty defoliation removing lower bud sites and many leaves. Figure this many plants in a small space I'll need the increased airflow and lower rH. This is the fun point when they recover from the trim and really start filling out with buds.

Got some serious height variation I need to address. Gonna prop up the shorter plants to level out better with the two beanstalk ones.

Noticed two of my TFM x Harlequin with males parts today. Bummer they are nice plants. Guess the defoliation was enough stress to pull out the hermie trait. I'm not sure if it is manageable or not? If I had a second flowering spot I would isolate them. They will probably just get tossed though.

I'll be keeping a close eye on the others, so far they seem clean. I may have had one ball on one of my Bodhi plants as well but I'm not letting those go without a fight.

Looks like one male flower opened, hopefully it didn't spread too much pollen.
