The G Pen Dash is a compact, portable vaporizer. I bought mine about 2 months ago and have been using it almost exclusively ever since. I tried a similar product a few years ago and did not like it very much, so I was skeptical. But now that I'm a geezer, I'm trying to give my throat and lungs a bit of a break, so I figured I'd give vaping with a compact vaporizer another try.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my Dash. It produces a reasonable amount of vapor, seems to be efficient (see below), is easy to clean, and the effects are comparable to smoking. My biggest complaint about my previous vape was that it impossible to clean the gunk out. My only (minor) complaint about the Dash is that the battery doesn't last very long and takes a long time to charge. I get about 3-4 uses before needing a recharge, about 6-8 hits per use. And, as I learned, one of three lights means it's dead, not 1/3 charged. The few times I've smoked recently is when the battery unexpectedly died.
There was a bit of a learning curve to get the best performance out of it. The bud has to be finely ground and packed tightly in the chamber. It vibrates when it gets to temperature, which is nice, takes about 25 sec. It usually takes a hit or two before the vapor really gets going. You have to take long, slow hits (to keep the hot air in contact with the material as long as possible), which took some getting used to, since I also use an e-cig. It also helps to wait 15-20 sec between hits to allow the vapor to build up.
The one thing I still haven't figured out is the Dash's inconsistency. Some chambers (or loads or bowls) give me over 30 good hits, while others start dying after only a dozen or so. I grind and pack the chamber the same, the only difference is the strain. I think the difference is how dry the bud is, but I'm not entirely convinced. I get a lot of hits from the dispensary weed I've tried. Also, from most of what I grow, which I don't let get too dry. But buds I keep in a container I frequently open and close tend to get dryer, and I generally get fewer hits. That's my working hypothesis. I'd like to hear other explanations for the wide variation in efficiency.
I think the Dash vaporizer is a very good product. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants be discrete, like when traveling, or who wants to take it a little easier on their lungs. Or to anybody, really.
