I remember my 3rd grade teacher used to smoke in class and the 2nd grade teacher from the room next door used to come in to our classroom to bum cigarettes off her.

I had an office on the 56th floor of 1 chase plaza in NYC.. 2 elevators to get to 56. I smoked 4 packs a day back then.. even on the elevators.. and I wasnt the only one.

Good lord, 4 packs a day! Thats 16hrs days chainsmoking or something lol!
When my grandfather retired, I got to spend more time with him and I remember watching him roll his own cigs 2 at a time while smoking them back to back
Also for some reason he gave his dogs cat food as treats

My grandpa also used to smoke 4 packs of 25's a day until he decided to 'cut back' to one 50 gram satchel of rolling tobacco per day.
He would only get 50 rolled cigarettes from the 50 gram satchel but they were about twice as thick as most people would roll.
I have never smoked cigarettes myself but i can't imagine how someone could smoke THAT MUCH for DECADES without feeling like absolute dog sh*t and try to maybe do something a little more enjoyable with their time.

Been there... fuck that rat race. I'm much happier and completely stress free now that I'm selling weed paraphernalia.

from a lifetime watching folks smoke, i'll bet 90% of cigarettes burned away sitting in ashtrays like nasty smelling incense...% might be higher for cigars & pipe tobacco. i've known people that never lit a cigar; they just gnawed on them so they had something to do.
