I was 20 and just started roping. My quarter horse was really a woman's horse. Too well behaved and overly docile. "I need a man's horse" I said to the boys. Almost in unison they said "Kobler is for sale!" "Kobler? Sounds like Nob Gobbler."
Some chick owned it. I bought him. What a fucking crazy motherfucker. Point that prick at a tree and he'd try to climb it. He put me through more than one fence and sent 2 guys to the hospital with broken ribs. He'd let you go into his stall to clean it, then he'd shove you into a corner and beat you up. He put the boots to one and crushed the other against the wall. He absolutely hated men. Wanted to kill them all. lol. It took about 6 months for him to trust me enough to not give me both barrels walking around him. He almost got me many times. I kept candies or carrots in my pocket for him all the time trying to win him over.
I have to say, he was a blast to ride and smart as hell. All I had to do is point his ass at something, give him a cue and he'd nail it. Another horse, a wall, a dog, didn't matter. lol.
I could call him from the barn and he'd jump the paddock fend and walk into the barn. Loved that war horse.

Years ago (1980s), I went to a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley.
It's an ancient ball park, built without a parking lot.
There was a line of old men outside the park who you could give $10 and your car keys.
They'd take your car home and bring it back around the 9th inning.
It was their source of beer money.
Never seen anything like it since.
Hand your keys and a 10 spot to a total stranger. And it worked.
