i do recall the hosoi/hawk rivalry. the christ air was no joke but at the end of the day i think tony hawk came out the victor....
so it was Easter of '76 & I spent the night @ my gf's place in the Bronx, her folks place. Her dad said he had a big surprise for us in the morning, he came back from his car w/2 big boxes, HUGE chocolate rabbits, each w/1 marzipan eye.
As he he held them out he wore a distraught look on his face, the bunny's had melted n' morphed into two pop art freaktures. We all had a great laugh, but Cheryl & I had done some 'shrooms the night before upstairs and we still had the giggles about the bunny's for hours later. We told her dad that this was much better than getting them intact, & chocolate is chocolate.

Early on it really was a close rivalry. Hosoi's flow and big airs, Christ, rocket, judo etc etc kept it pretty even.
Tony didn't have the same flow and was much more robotic.
His airs were much lower in height too, usually because he was spinning, but once Tony started doing board varials while spinning and 720's, it was over.
