Fucked up big time.. need advice

About a month ago me and a friend got a citation for smoking a joint in public and having ~1/4oz of pot on us. I had an expired recommendation at the time which I renewed before the court date. The court date was today and I, like a dumbass, forgot about it and slept through the appointment. I now have a warrant and a suspended license. My friend who was with me did not forget to show and got a $580 fine and 1 year probation.

So what is going to happen? What should I do right now?

Turn yourself in and explain to the judge what happened, probably still get close to the same as your buddy got.

get your shit in order and show up tomorrow when court opens , be prepared to strip down and get in orange(just in case-of course never take anything in courthouse but u would not beleive how many people still do).... peace

Angel4us is right. Right now there probably is a warrant with a no bail condition. The same judge can drop it at his discretion. Show up clean shaven,smellin' like soap.This won't be the time to act stoic,bonus points for you if you are scared or crying. True story,at my sentencing hearing in LA in '99 the judge gave another guy O.R.(Own Recognizance) after he complemented the Judges new haircut,even the Bailiff was laughing. Expect some extra lumps,but you never now,many judges go with a justice served philosophy. Good luck,Peace

Take it from me, nothing the judges love seeing more then a guy showing up on his own with a warrant, sometimes it goes better then if you would have gone to the original court date.

Your honor, it was an oversight on my part, as soon as I became aware of the matter, I immediately turned myself in so I could get it taken care of, and put behind me, and get on with my life.
I would like to apologize for any inconvenience my failure to appear caused the courts.

Show up with a Rec, and an apology to the Court...most likely you will walk away with nothing (Dismissed)
I take it that your friend that got the fine, he did not have a Rec??

I doubt you can just walk into the court room. You have to be on the docket. The state may not have your file, the PD may not have your file etc. Maybe you can call the judges chamber, clerk of the court etc


But I agree that you need to be proactive and nip this in the bud.

Yep, attitude is everything! Go to the clerk, & You might just need to write a statement if they don't intend to arrest you then & there.

#1 Figure out when magistrate court starts in your local. Mine is 9AM.
#2 With or without a lawyer (your choice) go to your local cop shop and say you have a warrant and are turning yourself in about two to three hours before magistrate starts. You will be processed and then send in front of the magistrate that day.
#3 Be nice, be polite, be well groomed, and look a little sorry.

I did that on a wrongful burglary charge. I was in and out on my own recog. in about 4 hours...and in the end I won. In your case, just pay the fine and you win.

All good advice. Wouldn't hurt to have a trusted pal with you carrying your bail money in case the judge is in a pissy mood.

Call ahead and tell them you have a warrant you would like to come in and take care of and where is the best place to turn yourself in at to get seen by the judge that day.

I turned myself in at 7am for one once, but I had missed the bus to the courthouse by the time I was processed in, and had to stay overnight before seeing the judge.

So call ahead and ask where to go, and when.

Its probally to late, But you should have had the Dr. back date your new rec and you could tell the judge you didnt replace the old one in your wallet. I know my Dr. would do it. LOL

Yes my friend did not have a rec, and your prediction was spot on! All dismissed, filed with the county clerk to have my herb returned to me!! For how much I was freaking out yesterday this turned out just fine. Thanks everyone for your input, greatly appreciated.
