An eviction is a legal court order, and unless this is a motel, he needs to be evicted by a judge, not the landlord. That paper "eviction" the landlord gave him is meaningless.

I wrote that so as to suggest that, as anyone else in any other state is able to, the OP should be able to easily learn the laws of their state. I don't dare discuss the laws of other states unless I'm knowledgeable in that area, and I just didn't feel like delving into it, no spoonfeeding should be necessary here.

i dont have much of an update.
i actually know the land lord better so i was hoping to talk some sense into them, but no luck. i am totally removed from the situation by some distance, and alot of what i have been told is through other people. i was half drunk when i originally got the call and the more i find out, the less i care what happens to the guy.
at first i was really upset, just thinking about being booted after years, with zero notice, no car, and not much money, but the guy can't get his act together from the sounds of it.
he in no way should be watching children. i can't believe he still gets to see them.

All those years splitting rent,no car,no funds whatsoever and a child?Definitely another movement to this masterpiece.While I'm positive that this 'gentleman' has rights under renter's law,the third eye of my brain tells me he don't want no stinking badges around.
Is it reasonable to feel badly for someone while simultaneously wondering what the fuck is wrong with them?

the youngest is fine, he lives with his mom, the older daughter, i really feel bad for. she is like 7 or 8 now, and her mom got all crazy with pills a few years back, and lost custody. the guys mom was watching her for a while, but now i think his latest ex's(who he has the 3 year old with) mom is now watching her.
fl is horrible...

Yeah walt it's fucked when there is a doc in a box every 1/4 mile advertising on a billboard what they will prescribe. There is a huge profit in prescription drugs.
How is FL horrible?
It's the few selected people (such as your friend) who are making it look that way!
No one forces drugs (good & bad) on anyone!

i guess you haven't heard about the HUGE problem FL has, unlike any other state. to say selected few, is a joke. its a statewide problem, why do you think people from over 1000 miles away would go there every month?
this kid started construction at 16, at around 22 he had 2 slipped discs and had to go on pain meds so he could continue to work. well after a few years of that he needs stronger and stronger stuff to be able to work. well eventually he got on the oxy pills, he lasted a good year or 2 of working on those, and then it all went downhill. he was too addicted and lost his job. thats when it really got bad.
Im not really sure how most people in their mid 20's would deal with all that, but without the support of family or some money to send you to a decent rehab, i just see the same cycle repeating itself. good rehabs are very very expensive, over 10k a week and you should really commit to a month. other than that, they just throw you on subutex or suboxone, and call it a day. oh and those pills are expensive as fuck without insurance, so most addicts don't take them.
saying nobody forces them on anyone is bullshit. hardly any people were forced to smoke a cig, or drink a shot, or do a line, but afterwards they get hopelessly addicted.

No I was not kidding.
There's always exemptions but generally staying addicted to drugs - whether they be legal or illegal - is a question of will, moral strength and character!
Like I said there's always exceptions but "just because they're there" it doesn't mean one has to take - and stick - with them!
I myself and various other people around me have had injuries & other legal reasons in the past where we have been subscribed to all sorts of crazy shit, some of us stuck with the bad shit and went down with it, however most of us stopped when we had to and the reason to take them was not present anymore.
Others in my past have drank themselves either to or near death and don't even get me started on smoking.
Don't you think your friends kids SHOULD have been enough of a reason to seek professional help for him since he could not handle the situation himself!?

can't expect folks that have no clue about real life situations to understand. the band everlast did a song called what it's like. folks listen to it every day but don't hear it. in 1980 i was shot by leo. spent 2 weeks in the hospital on morphine. leo wanted to interrogate me so they checked me out of the hospital. When I got deathly ill 2 days later because they took me off cold turkey they returned me to the hospital only to find out that I was now a morphine addict and had to come off the drug in baby steps. I had no choice in the matter.

for a rational person yes you are dead right. but addiction in most cases hinders 1 from rational behaviorism
