Free your fluorescent bud pics!!

wotamess: thanks for stoppin' by!

elfin1mf:

well, your math is a bit off... you would need twenty 50 watt cfls to equal a 1000w hps (if i'm understanding that right haha), but someone else with more experience will have to tell you if it would be the same quality buds as a HPS. i would think an equal wattage of CFL would be less intensity than a HPS, but that's just intuition.

Someone probably responds to this at different point in the thread: but you are correct. Luminosity, the measure of light intensity that matters most for plants, does not stack as the number of individual lights increases. This means that even if you had 20 50watt CFL's, they would not emit light of the same intensity as a 1000watt HPS. This doesn't mean you can't grow great bud with floro's, but it will be difficult to achieve the same size/density as you would with a more luminous HID light.

Keep growing comrades!

Kaotic, your Speed Queens look FANTASTIC! It's good to see some peeps rockin Mandala's gear around this place. Hope you don't mind a few questions about your grow...What day of flower is that picture taken? How long have you been flushing? How long till chopchop? Also, are you doing soil? How long was Veg? Finally, what is your setup like? Beautiful results you've got there. Peace.

........ it seems , that fluros(cfls, t5's....) seem ideal for smaller spaces generally, but if you have a large space professional lights are designed for that will be better.

I added 8 t-12s,hung vertical in my homebox.Im also running a lumitek 250 HPS.The floros made a big difference, and after this grow,Im adding 4 more,so that 3 sides of the tent will be covered in T-12s.Im running a mix of 3000k,4100k,and 5900k 40 watt bulbs. With all the side lighting, the low buds are much bigger.I used some new, digital 2 bulb fixtures, and there lite as a feather, and dont weigh the tent frame down too much. The plants love it.:joint:

Hello. My name is Justfig and this is my 1st post here. I've been reading for months on how to grow inside a closet nad now I'm ready to give it a try. I'm on disablity, so money is very tight. That is one of the reasons I'm going with Floro's plus the fact I don't want to raise my electric bill. OK, here's what I have to work with. My closet is 5' wide by 3' deep by 9' tall. I am in the process of sealing it with chaulk (I have to have it air tight) and getting ready to paint it flat white. For ventilation, I'm cutting holes in the floor that lead into the crawl space. The holes will be the same as in a central air system i.e. square about 4"X6" then cover with vent covers with screen underneath to keep out kritters. There will be one on each end of the closet. Will passive be good enough or should I add some fans to them? For exhaust, I plan on using a Vortex type fan into a charcoal filter vented into the attic. Now here is where it starts to get interesting. The fellow that mows my yard for me (free of charge I must add) is an old friend who just happens to be the Chief of Police here in the Mayberry type town I live in! I desperately do not want him to know what I am doing! I don't think he would arrest me but it would defiantly kill our friendship. Hell, if I have to, I'll go out a kill a skunk once a month during mowing season just to mask the oder! First question, on the exhaust vent side, would a 4" fan and filter be enough or should I go for the 6" size? Second question. I have (was free) a 4' twin tube VHO aquarium fixture that has never been used. I was planning on putting in two 110w daylight bulbs for sprouting and growing then changing them out to something like the 4000k warm bulbs for flowering and budding. I am starting off with some "bagseeds" to see how it goes then moving on to the money seeds for which I will probably not eat for a week just to get them!!! LOL Question is, will the 2 VHO bulbs be enough or should I get more fixtures? I have a chance to pick up two4'ers twin bulb fixtures for $20.00 ! I don't plan on growing more than 6 to 8 plants at a time. Maybe 10 :) What do you guys think?

I've really been encouraged by all I've seen in here. Really inspired me!

Thanks....JF

T-8 Flouros

T-8 Flouros

Hi All !:witch: Very Nice pics of your medicine.....:yoinks: The new type electronic ballast fixtures 48" for T-8, and T-12 tubes, if the T-8 32w tubes are
used the fixtures output is 33% more than the T-12 tubes output...and less
wattage used for more lumens....KOOL!!! The best tubes at this time are
Phillips 32w/48" Natural Sunshine/5000K @ $7.50 each, and OTTlite T-12 48"
40w natural light 5900K @ $10 each, these are the best for veg and flowering,
and also tried all the other companys tubes, and they were ok, but the above
tubes performed better, this took over 2 years to dial the right combo in...T-5
tubes are great, but they are HOT to the touch, and burned leaf and bud, and
T-8 and T12's are cooler to touch and do not burn....but get light as close as you can.....Here's OG Kush under T-8's.....Peace!

so, in what way does your whiney complaint make things better?

maybe you could put up some pics or find some other parade to rain on.

anyway, here are some buds grown under nothing but CFL's, sadly, i failed
to label the pics so i can't say with certainty which strain is which but i can
say that CFL's rock, especially for anyone on a tight budget!

Hi Ya All here's some dried CFL grown bud pics, this particular plant is from somewhere within Southern Australia and it is a local breed, it is able to be picked @ 60 days but i let this one go to 75 days with a 16 day flush, during veg and flower it was the strongest smelling and sweetest smelling plant in the cab, very fuel cross with heavy fruity undertones(passionfruit, papaya, maybe watermelon also), could benefit from a longer veg time to get a higher yield, 3/4 of the plant was chopped with the rest now back in the veg cab revegging :-

Total dried weight for this little cut was 6.5 grams :woohoo: next time round with a longer veg, I'll be aiming for 10g's.
Happy Gardening All.
Peace

first, let me say 'Welcome' and suggest that you start an introductory thread
to let everyone have a chance to welcome you proper like.

second, let me say that part of the reason you didn't get an answer is that it's
hard to read messages with that much info all in one, tightly packed paragraph.

now, let's see if i can give you some answers.

Hello. My name is Justfig and this is my 1st post here. I've been reading for months on how to grow inside a closet nad now I'm ready to give it a try. I'm on disablity, so money is very tight. passive should be fine, as long as it is large enough

For exhaust, I plan on using a Vortex type fan into a charcoal filter vented into the attic. Now here is where it starts to get interesting. lol, yeah, i don't guess you want the chief of police in on your little
secret garden, so go for the 6" and carbon scrubber to match. you can't have
too much security!
Second question. I have (was free) a 4' twin tube VHO aquarium fixture that has never been used. it's good you're starting with bagseed to learn your chop's on
and fluoro's will do the job but you need to spend some time really studying.

believe me man, every minute you spend studying will pay you back 10 fold!

anyway, here's a link to a thread by ScrubNinja that you should check out as
he is using a relatively new kind of CFL that really works well and he is doing
some ground breaking work with them.

CFL's have come a long way and you can get ones up to 300w @ Lowe's, 150's too. Then you get a light socket splitter and put 2 lights on one. It is still under the wattage of an incandescent.
