FoxFarm Ocean Forest / Perlite ratio for Blueberry??

From everything I've read, Blueberry is one of the most sensitive ladies to grow. Some people say they use Ocean Forest str8 but I remember it to be on the HOT side of things. I found some starter soil (sphagum peat moss, vermiculite, and bark fines)for the first 2-3 weeks, and Im wondering if we should use a 50/50 mix of Ocean Forest/Perlite to make sure the soil isnt too strong and wont doesnt burn or stress this strain. We can use FF nutes for feeding (1/3 - 1/2 strength) when they really need it. I was even thinking of mixing in some of this starter soil but not really sure. What do you guys think?

Just today I mixed up a batch of OF with 50% chunky perlite. They should be good for about 3 weeks with only water in veg, after that I will feed organic nutes all the way through flower. OF is a very rich soil, It can sustain veg growth for a month with only water when its not cut down. Keep it simple, use OF and perlite, and start feeding when the ladies tell you they want it.

DJ Short grows organic and selects plants that aren't heavy feeders. I read in his book he also flushes for about 4 weeks so you can imagine the plants he selected are lighter feeders. Fox Farm has a starting soil mix called happy frog that are for cuttings/starts so you are correct, FFOF is way too hot for most small cuttings (unless the strain is a very heavy feeder). Your starter soil should be fine.. you are gonna need some worm castings or a light vegetative fertilizer to get things started. Your plan sounds like a successful one.

Hm, I have never had a strain get burned in OF and I've been using it for a while. I've grown very picky sativas that need next to no food in it also. And happy frog is an all in one planting mix, You can veg for even longer with that soil with no nutes, its richer than OF.

I wish I heard about happy frog, I went all over the place looking for a small bag of plain ass soil. All I could find was miracle grow seedling soil, which may be just fine but I didnt want to take a chance with this strain. I eventually found some small bags of Planters Pride Seedling and Potting Mix which seems perfect.

The only thing Im adding is dolomite lime and I have Grow Big and Big Bloom for when they need it. If anything Im going to err on the light side of things.

I guess I'll try the 50/50 mix, see how that does and try feeding them 3-4 weeks after transplanting into this mix.

I use a 50% FFOF 30% BlackGold CoComix 20%perilite, this makes a really leight soil making it real easy for root development. sometimes ill toss a little marine cuisine in ther to make them extra happy, that stuff works great.

Fox Farm's Light Warrior is their best product for starting seeds. Specifically made for that. Amending the soil with 30% perlite of the starting weight of soil should suffice.

I have had success with using Fox Farm's Ocean Forest soil as well, and that was growing DJ Short's Flo and F-13. :joint:

I have found a 50/50 blend of the Ocean Forest and Happy Frog to be the most ideal w/ 30% perlite. The Happy Frog seems to contain quite a bit of wood in it. The beneficial microbes and fungi are a nice addition :D
