Yeah - that is the one I was talking about D. But shit, Willie doing reggae, I gotta check out that new album, add it to the collection.

I was born in Russia, and imigrated to the US around '89. At the time I had my russian citizenship, but then when the Soviet Union colapsed, if someone wanted to keep thier rusian citizenship, they would have to go down to their aplicable country (since all the soviet bloc states were now sovergn countries) and reapply for citizenship in person.

At this point, I already had my US citizenship, and really didn't care about the whole russian citizenship thing, so I didn't bother spending the thousands of dollars it would have cost to just show up at the thing, not to mention all of the financial costs and lost time that I would have had to endure with the application process. Plus, at that time, the region was an even bigger mess than it is now.

But I still have my nifty red Union of Soviet Socialist Republics passport stashed away somewhere in a drawer at my parents house. hehe.

yea, that post prolly wasn't any help, junit, sorry.
Besides, you wouldn't want to live in Russia anyway. Unless you had shitloads of money.

hey velvet, thanks for all that immigration info on italy. kind of a shame to hear about the massive flow into the country tho, i wouldn't want it getting extreme. i have a couple of grandparents that were born in italy so i imagine they have their citizenship, and i still have relatives over there, i have always thought of applying for citizenship, but i heard it had to be done by the age of 19 or something, is that right at all or could i apply anytime? thanks for the help :)

I'm probably one of the few guys who wanted out of the US. The rest of the world wants in badly. I dont regret moving a little bit, and dont miss anything, literally anything except the killer bud which I ll grow here. Most of the people in the US are like robots or clones as my buddy would say. I met some great folks and many more morons. I understand that everyone wants a piece of the american dream, and as an older gentleman told me - you know, it gets to be ok here after about 30-35 years. No thnx! Dont want to live in Babylon, in a police state. I dont wanna look over my back every time I smoke.
I live on the beach, even with cops everywhere, the whole building sometimes reeks of pot and some even smoke it openly. The most beautiful sight! :joint:
Most important thing is to speak the language of the country where u wanna live, the rest comes easy. With the US standard of living (middle class), after a couple of years anyone can save up and move to any country in south america, providing that one has a job with a moderate income. Its warm, girls are beautiful:) U may also get a job with an international company.
Canada, australia, holland - a few places that with only english one can survive. I heard that spain is pretty cool too. Hash everywhere. For papers, get a local girl and ur set. My preferences are tropical, coastal areas and islands but that I ll leave for my retirement. Why not, buy an island, and make it legal! Yeah! Every stoner will be welcome! Come down to my plantation baby!
I think that soon I ll rip my american passport and decline the citizenship. :joint:

I'm gonna try and get Brasilian citizenship in the near future. When I first went to Brasil I was like a celeb. I didn't find one unfriendly Brasilian. As far as hiding my americaness, it would be have been easier for me if I lived in Bahia or a large city.

I don't know what the citizenship requirments are but I'm sure they are similar to the visa that I'm trying to get now. I had to send in pictures and get all this stuff notorized. Also you have to have a non criminal police record for stays over 90 days.

In my earlier growing years I got caught with one plant. It was small, only had about three nodes so i was able to get a ticket instead of a felony manufature charge.
Well my visa still hasn't come back, sent it off 3 weeks ago, so I'm getting kinda worried about if they're gonna give me one. I know a ticket isn't criminal so I don't know what the hold up is. If I can't get a visa then I definately can't get citizenship.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young? Most are probably too young to remember that beautiful poetry!

Some countries have a points system based on your occupation, education, and age. How you score depends on their national occupational needs and are subject to change. But even in these situations, there are often ecconomical considerations as well. If you don't meet occupational and educational status requirements but you are financially wealthy you may be able to gain access because of the financial aspect that you'll bring to the country. New Zealand has immigration rules like this.

OXOSSI - you tell it...!

I am in the same boat... Had enough.

Home is extremely beautiful for me, geographically, and I will never give NorCal up in entirety, but only a "real' Alternative thinking Amerikan knows the feeling. The politics that we exist under seem unchangeable, and are bordering on the perverse. Certainly, institutional cruelty is the order of the day. Simply cannot exist in the ridiculous lie-filled Babylon that the oil companies, the pharmaceutical corps of graft and corruption, and the weapons suppliers rule with a collective iron fist. It turns my stomach.

So much of the western world is Americanized anyways (for better or for worse), so one does not have to feel so estranged. And the internet has made Earth smaller.

No ONE culture is perfect, but mine has become less so, in the last decade. And kindness is still a part of the human condition in some places, and not just between family.

Move to Finland :p

Summers are short and winters are long (you can't grow outside)

And everything is very expensive

Tax rates are the highest in the world

But it's a good place

The nature.. Ahh.. We have to pay a price to preserve it.. And other countries (like US) destroy it..

It doesnt have to be just for Marijuana reasons..... I am just wondering what one has to go through...... what the experience is like....... Was it different than you expected... did they treat you differently because you WERE an American....(I know the world doesnt have the greatest opinion about us) I mean its one thing to visit a different country...... its another to live there full time.

Please share your experience.

I'm not US person but I've seen quite a few US/ UK guys doing subsistence level farming in the villages of Himachal and places like Orissa and Assam. They ditch their passports on the ganges river, marry a local and get integrated into the agrarian culture...

The need to live peacefully w/o any bullshit is a pretty strong call after all...

i was about to get citizenship.. lived there for 17 years and got busted by cops with a pound three days before my oath.. talk about bad luck... now im displaced back to my parents lands
