Forest Service buys flying drones to help find marijuana growers

can any DOGFIGHT? now if someone could rig this camera up to my Xbox 360 cotroller i bet i can comocosi one of those flying caccaraoches rigth out the sky.....

But in all reality this is a major peice of sucky news...it adds to a stoners paranioia ."i keep thinkin of that damn stupid song " i allways feel like somebodys watchin me...." you know witch one it is Anyways.now all those crazy farmers in the hills wont get away like always when the choppers come in and then who might we be able to get to come back and try to do it agin someplace else next year?.whom i wounder...?.these guys wont be put out of bussness by TWO planes, BUT those two little planes will defently be used to make sure that more than the intial 100,000 a piece paid will be justified to the tax payers eyes around harvest season ...so watchout you big timmers . P

Ps. has ayone used google earth satallite photos to look at places that you know grow herbs in the summer? the photos contain enough detail to see people and "form what i get out it are takin during winter months, a few years back" imagine TODAYS pics, AND now imagine the ones they dont let you see....btw. satlites have thermal technology

Stupid......

Stupid......

Due to the short range maybe 10NM i doubt this will be affective although it is kind of strange knowing something could be watching you in a rural area and theirs no way you can hear it or see it coming as it has an electric motor.

It would suck to be out camping peacefully, minding your oun business and doing no harm only to discover one of these things buzzin around harrassing you or watching you. Geez, Big Brother can follow you all the way out into the woods!! :badday: I wouldn't be the least bit surprised of some folks shoot at them.

bro they have been watching us for decades...

100k on a drone will bring in way more then 100k for those pigs... one good grow detected and the damn things paid off....

i doubt they will be cracking down on any smaller grows...

Air Force Spy Drone Vanishes In Central Fla.

Air Force Spy Drone Vanishes In Central Fla.
Apparently, they still have some glitches to fix...

OCALA, Fla. -- U.S. Air Force officials were searching for a unmanned spy air craft that vanished in the Marion County sky Tuesday.

The Air Force was conducting training with the UAV Raven at about 4 p.m. Tuesday when the aircraft was launched from an open field in the 500 block of Southeast 25th Avenue in Ocala.

Upon launch, the Raven immediately turned eastward and failed to respond to all commands from the controllers, Ocala police said.

The Raven, which has an approximate wingspan of 6 feet, landed at an unknown location, possibly in the Ocala National Forest, police said.

Air Force officials who said they want to recover the Raven are seeking help in locating it.

The Raven can fly up to 6.2 miles at speeds up to 60 mph, according to officials.

Anyone with information on the location of the device is asked to contact the Ocala Police Department.

there may be an exploitable advantage

most technology has big achilles heels

If you shoot em down (im sure they are stealthy and fly high) you give away your location

Research the technology they are using to "differentiate" marijuana from other flora and exploit it

For example the big boom in digital survalliance is a joke. Point a tv remote at your cell phone camera and press a button on the remote. YOU WILL SEE IR THAT IS INVISABLE TO THE HUMAN EYE

here is an article on how it is used to defeat the london security network

http://hackedgadgets.com/2008/02/21/ir-leds-used-to-defeat-security-cameras/

I AM NOT SUGGESTING YOU USE IR TO DEAFEAT THE DRONE

but it stands to reason that if the drone is programmed to "spot" marijuana then all you have to do is fool the technology.

LEO is using technology instead of human eyes. If you distrupt the profile of the plant past programing recognition paramaters, or distrupt the IR profile it will still look like weed to the huan eye, but the drone isnt human and is only programmed to recognize a "signature"

possible an oil sprayed from another plant could distrupt it (maybe not practical with a huge grow)

I think for example shade cloth would work,, and while a human LEO could automatically know its fishy, a drone doesnt posses that type of logic

You will never know it is up there. The Flir capability is basically useless during daylight, but at night it will not detect your plants, it will detect you! Most of us guerrilla's operate at night. They fly over suspected grow area's at night, and zoom in on the hots spots, it is really easy to spot a person. If something doesn't drastically change with the law in this country we are going to lose the battle on the ground.

UPDATE

It looks like the FAA said 'no-way' to unmanned aerial drones flying haphazardly over urban areas...

"Palm Bay police say hopes are fading that the Federal Aviation Administration -- the agency with oversight over unmanned drones -- will allow the law enforcement agency to use the craft anytime soon."

This is good news for indoor farmers. However, they'll still use these in remote areas to look for outdoor ops.
