What's new

for PA The Barry Busch Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act of 2009

@the man - just wanted to let you know that I just posted it on the phillyNORML boards (http://www.phillynorml.org/forum/index.php?board=5.0)

Also, in light of the recent study showing that THC can inhibit opioid dependency, I've shot another email to Katie True. I know she's not going to change her mind, but after years working in the Drug and Alcohol field she should have an opinion on this. It was a very polite e-mail simply asking her how she felt about that. She'll probably come back at me with, "substituting addiction to heroine or morphine with the equally dangerous addiction to the equally harmful and dangerous marijuana is not an option"; I'm expecting that at the most.

Good luck on Rep. Katie True

She doesn't listen to anybody if you can get thru to her it would be miracle

She claims to know everything there is to know about Marijuana.

It is has disappointing to find out many of our Representatives don't really listen to the people and base there votes on personal choice .

OLD UTZ PLANT AT CARLISLE STREET AND CLEARVIEW ROAD

SATURDAY, AUGUST 8, 12-2 PM
YORK US30 ON THE WIDE MEDIAN WEST OF 11TH STREET AND SUSQUEHANNA TRAIL

Glenville, PA.-- Two more educational marches have been scheduled in Central Pennsylvania to engage the public and educate citizens about the medical science and human compassion of pending House Bill 1393, allowing licensed physicians to recommend the therapeutic use of Cannabis for patients with debilitating diseases such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, HIV/AIDS and other conditions for which there is solid scientific evidence of its benefits.

The House Health and Human Services Committee will hold a public hearing when they return from summer recess in September. Our extensive lobbying of these legislators indicates that the Bill will pass the Committee by a comfortable margin, but Representatives who are undecided or leaning against its passage must hear directly from the citizens they represent when the bill comes before the full House.

House Health & Human Services Committee hearing will be ASAP after Assembly returns from vacation in September. The last half of August will be the time to prepare written and oral testimony with exhibits for witnesses, and I can help. We have Chuck Homan, a disabled-on-duty Pennsylvania State Police Officer, a formerly wheelchair-bound post-MVA patient who is tapering opioids and walking again, a general surgeon who wants to become involved, and others. Public attendance at the hearing will be an important indicator of the strong public support for this bill.
Thanks for all you do.

OK, kids, this is it! Written testimony may be submitted by any citizen, and we can help you prepare yours. Oral appearances at the hearings may be limited to a few minutes, and most of the time will be given to the physicians who will present the medical profession's position on Cannabis. you need to point out that the drug companies are actively attempting to isolate the different medicinal compounds in MJ and rake in the profits. Marinol, as well as two newly approved "pharmaceutical" MJ pills are EXTEMELY expensive (up to 50.00 / pill) and mostly not covered by insurance even with cancer patients. If MJ "has no medical use or purpose" then why are the drug companies (including a new one in the bay area that is doing it the right way) racing to identify all the medicinal compounds present in the best samples that can be obtained from Europes pharmacies and growers. I have a friend who has worked for Organatechnica for years, they've been working on these drugs since 2000.

I mysef am an Immunologist who knows that MJ contains compounds involved in the inflamatory/anti-inflamatory process and each day more peer reviewed research is showing up proving the medical benefits of MJ.

Just for a short list;

inhibits cancer growth in lung, brain (glioma, thank us with legality Teddy!), interupts the cycles of MS and other autoimmune diseases (Chron's, Lyme disease, other diseases that have an autoimmune component. Not to mention glaucoma, chronic pain (back pain!!! which I suffer from on an hourly basis thanks to a coke head rear ending me over 20 years ago).

I tried Marinol under a doc's prescription (my dose was 30/pill, not covered). After taking one 5mg pill (oil filled round vitamin like pill), it took at least 30min for initial effect. Most of the effect was just a couchlock and feeling like I had taken a codeine. Not what I wanted. As far as appetite stimulation, again, not what I expected. While the drug clearly increased my appetite, the resulting spinning feeling that set in after about an hour made eating difficult!

A friend of mine in the late stages of cancer was up to the highest dose (and most expensive) with little relief. Now compare this to when she used some "home made" Blueberry, she had 4 or 5 puffs, held them.....and was eating within 15 min and feeling much better. In late stage cancers 'feeling better" is sometimes all we can hope for and always wellcome. Thank G-d for the blueberry that made her last days much more comfortable and lucid as opposed to the morphine and lorazepam that they kept her unconscience with in the hospital.

I ask any scientists out there interested in forming a new company to develop extracts with specific disease targets and consistency of product, I have all the equipment to do molecular and cellular immunological studies, cancer studies, autoimmune studies, etc...
Lets start a new type of pharma company that will base it's drug pipeline on natural versions of Marinol, etc... with maybe capsules containing predefined strains with known levels of THC, canabanoids and other compounds, always consistant and each type designed for sub groups of patients, as in, pain patients (neurological and chronic v acute), cancer patients (glioma, and others found to directly be inhibited by the compounds), cancer patients for relief of pain, nausea, depression....for autoimmune diseases such as MS, Lupus, the many dermal autoimmune diseases, etc...

Contact me if you are a scientist (Ph.D.) and interested in this concept or a serious top notch grower that is interested in trying to bring this amazing set of compounds to market and to help as many people suffering as possible.

I've lost my brother to cancer, suffering horribly to the end, My best friend in the world to ovarian cancer, suffering again.....I'm an experienced cancer research scientist who wants to advance the use of MJ compounds for the relief of suffering and the actual treatment of many diseases. I have a laboratory that is fully equiped to do so and need help from anothr Ph.D. or M.S. and funding.

I'm also have over 25 years experience in cultivation and strain development, if that sweetens the concept to and investor out there.

Hope to hear from some of you out there.......Machinehead83

In the past, we've asked you to donate money, call your elected officials, and write letters to the editor of your local newspapers. What we need now is your time and energy, to help us spread the word about PhillyNORML, Pennsylvanians for Medical Marijuana, and HB 1393. Right now, with the PA Assembly bogged down with the budget, we have an opportunity to raise a lot of awareness.

Linked here is a flyer that we need people to put up everywhere in the state. Please, print a bunch of these up, and put them wherever you can in your community - post them in cafés, on bulletin boards, on telephone poles, in your workplace, in your apartment complex, your synagogue or church, and anywhere else that allows it.

You can download the flyer from our website. Thank you for helping us spread the word in your community. It is a necessary step to bring the debate to every town in PA, and this will do exactly that.

Sincerely,

Derek Rosenzweig

UPDATE:
The PA House is in recess until at least after the election. They are currently in their own districts for you to visit personally with your own legislators.

The Fall schedule isn't set yet, so they might not be back in Harrisburg for us to lobby them there for a while after the election.

If you are interested in learning how to lobby, please contact Chuck.

Current lobbyists are: Nick, J. R., Jesse, Dave, Rollie, and of course, Chuck. Teams of 2 are VERY effective!

PARTICIPATE IN YOUR GOVERNMENT!

Chuck's Statistics and Findings:

Out of every 10 eligible voters in America only 6 actually register to vote.
Out of those 6 only 5 make it to the poles to vote on election night.
Out of those 5 only 1.5 voters acutally know the integrity or anything else about the local legislator that they are voting for.

This shows that 3 out of 10 voters are making the laws for everyone to follow.

After researching this issue, I have found a way to influence atleast 5 of the 7 voters who are uneducated about who they are voting for. This brings any legislators job to a 50/50 vote at the polls on the night of the election. Stay tuned for my grand plan!!!

It looks like it's going to be great weather for Saturday if you can attend this event:

Saturday, November 7th
Game time is 3:30 p.m., so we want to be at the site at 11:30 a.m. (takes 1 1/2 hours from Harrisburg)
The meeting place is a pull-off area on PA 322 West (2 miles past Seven Mountains Rest Stop where we were in September) on the road to Penn State vs. Ohio.
If you need a ride, want to carpool, or confirm your attendance, please call 717 235-2840 or 717 873-3254.

You can go to www.medicalmovement.com to view pictures from September's event. LOTS of traffic to be able to send a message to!
