Off in an obscure little corner the curator directed my attention to this little gem when he saw my Cash t-shirt.It is a mock mug shot of Cash taken at the prison when he did his first concert there in '66.

And finally, here's the whole reason I went out there to begin with.A reporter was with Cash on the day of the concert and took some pics,he pretty much forgot about them after the concert until recently when he showed them to the curator and the guy freaked out over the un-discovered pics. Now they sell copies at the museum.

Here's pic of an old toilet, they haven't changed this design much over the years.I guess if you are a contorsionist you could take a crap and wash your face at the same time.

Thanks JLP. Mucho interesting, both historically and socially.

Our country tis of thee, sweet land of liberty...and to think that our govt would have most of us on this board sent to this kind of place for what we do.

That is so outa whack, so wrong, that I have to believe that someday the laws will change and the threat of prison time will be reduced to, at most, a gnarly slap on the wrist. How long that will take, who knows?

Great photos dude, nice tour, thanks man.

Thanks guys,

Here's another interesting offshoot of the Folsom concert. Before the show Johnny met the prison chaplin who presented him with a tape of a guy named Glen Sherley singing a song called "Greystone Chapel" which he wrote about the chapel at Folsom.Cash liked the song so much he stayed up to learn it so he could sing it at the concert the next day, much to Sherley's amazement. He figured Cash would never see the song but it wound up on the album.Sherley later cut his own album in Vacaville(CMF).When Sherley got out of prison he played in Cash's band for a brief time.Sherley's career never really took off and eventually he got a job feeding cattle. Finally in 1975 Glen ended his own life by shooting himself in the head.

That is very cool. One of my pops girfriends used to seel Johnny pills way back when. They were in columbus Mississippi when My dad first met Johnny. Pops says Johnny was at the bar(shatfaced) and introduced himself. "Hello I'm Johnny Cash", Pops said whatever, I dont give a rats ass. Not knowing that man was on his way to becoming very famous. They still laugh about those situations to this day. Its kinda crazy cuz I never expected my dad to have met somebody famous. He never mentioned it until that movie came out. He has all kinds of funny "Shit faced Cash stories"

Weird, I sent you two and never got a response. Maybe I was stoned and didn't hit the button lol.

I remember listening to the offspring back in the 90's and wondering about Folsom. Is walla walla another name for it? Or is that some cali slang I don't get?

Here's a few more pics of the Gatling.

Here's a failed escape attempt.

Here's a painting of the last supper that one of the inmated painted using the faces of convicted murderers.

Here's a pic of Cash shaking hands with Glen Sherley.
