Flush Mounting Gavitas

I have been bouncing this idea around, trying to get a feel if it may actually work well prior to actually doing it.

The idea is to flush mount Gavita's in the ceiling of a sealed room. The ballast and top portion of the hood would be in the attic space above the room, while the bottom edge of the hood would be flush with the ceiling.

Obviously there are some big cons to this design, the question is can the pros outweigh them.

Major pro that the idea was based on, was that the heat from the ballast as well as a portion of the heat from the bulb itself would radiate up out of the sealed environment, reducing energy consumption from cooling. Also you would gain some vertical space within the room.

Big cons I can think of: Loose the ability to raise/lower the lamps, wear and tear on the units from operating them in a warmer environment (attic vs cooled room), also I imagine you may slightly compromise the ability to 100% seal the room since the hoods have some holes in them for the wires at least.

Hoping some of you might be interested in adding in your opinions, or maybe someone is doing it or has tried it. Surely I haven't thought of some angle or problem that may arise, but hopefully you guys can.

Thanks,
Mr^^

Look up Medicropper on Youtube,
He's running two 25k rooms with this sort of set up for a WA State 502 garden

That'll help give you a bit of a visual, anyway

I've seen it done (medicropper on IG) and I think it looks awesome especially for those with low ceilings, like me. If you could vent the attic even better. In my case with eight foot ceilings I would have no need to ever lower the fixture.

Co2 leakage would be the biggest possible problem I think.

I thought about doing that to an RV, and seal up and hide the rest of the ballast into the old AC housing on the roof top..

And recently though about paneling my flower room ceiling down about a foot with large greenhouse glass, and stuffing a bunch of 400 waterproof streetlamp fixtures in there, and cool it like one giant hood, leaving the room sealed.

Or you could just purchase a DE lamp that is configured for lower ceiling, like the nanolux…

and the money and time you save recessing those Gavitas into the ceiling can then be spent on getting some real bulbs for those nano's, cause the lamps they come with suck big doodie...

Gavita has their Plasmas set up so you can run a big tube around the ballast and cool it.
I'll bet they retool the DE's to handle the same set up.
