Under 250w hps what is a optimal size pot to flower in? I've got them in 2 gallon pots still in veg at least for another 2-4 weeks. Is this suffiecient or should we go larger.

How long ago were they put into the two gallon pots?

Rule of thumb vegging or flowering....one gallon of soil for evey foot of growth.

I'd say a 3 gallon but if you wait a month you may wish to go with a 5 gallon.

Hey Darkside,
That first grow is something isn't it? My first was done a year ago this month. Soil is good and slow. I listened to all kinds of advice about potting. From cups to double potting etc. What I found worked best for the plants I was growing was to get them in as big as pots as possible as soon as possible. Of course it depends on how much room you've got and what style of grow you're doing,scrog,sog,bush,tree...The deal being let those roots spred as soon as possible is what works for me.
So, how much room do you have and how big do you want them to be? How many do you have under that 250?

When growing there are certain limiting factors:
Light....,nutrients...., C02.....genetics
If you are limiting one of these factors it will have an influence on the final product. The fact is is that with what you are growing it will be real easy to outgrow your light.
So if you go big pots, the plants will crowd each other out for the light. So it sounds like your 3 gallon pots will work just fine depending on how much longer you want to veg them. But it seems to me you are going to wish that you had more light for those nlxbigbud.

Best of luck and Be Safe

bluze,

Thanks. I have no CO2 and won't have this grow. I already wish i had more light. Beginners mistake. And there in 2 gallon right now. So are you sayin switch to 3 or stay at 2? thanks.

Every time I've grown in 2 gal pots the plants were practically suffocating d/t being root bound at the end of flower. Like you said, beginner mistakes. I'd get them in the three's as soon as possible, they will like it better.
But then again, this is as much art as it is science, and there are many ways to grow correctly. The idea is is to get to know the strain you want to grow out and get to know it's likes and dislikes. You can have seed sisters that respond to their environment differently.

As far as the co2, I've spent lots of money trying to get it tuned in and to tell ya the truth, as long as they have a constant flow of fresh air, I'm not sure the hassle was worth it.

I've gone hydro and the difference is just unbelieveable. You can practically sit there and watch them grow, and I have the co2 shut off, I'm not sure it would be good for them to grow any faster!!

Be Cool

If you use the hydro nutes in soil it is suggested that you flush regularly to prevent salt buildup. ie 3xpot size in water flushed thru pot. This will help prevent nute lock out

The best way to determine if it needs water is get the same size pot and fill it with the same soil. Compare weights. This works even as the plant grows and it's needs change

Two gallon or Three gallon ?

Two gallon or Three gallon ?

Hey guys. I'm at that same crossroad with my 3 Blue Mystics. They are at flower day 17 and recently went into 2-gal pots. I still have 5-6 weeks of flower growth for them and wondered about going to 3-gal pots. Another factor in my garden is heighth limitation - 2 1/2 feet is about as tall as I can have in my bookcase cabinet. 2 feet tall = 2 gal soil. What do y'all think?

This is my maiden voyage in this growbox. When I grow a strain with more sativa traits, I'll really have to work on keeping it short. I'm looking forward to that challenge. Down the road, I have some of Mdanzig's MasterLow to grow. I think that strain might be custom-made for my size garden.

Personally, in a side by side test, I'd never disturb the roots again once into 12/12. Been there and the stress recover was longer in 12/12 than the recovery in 18/6.

BUT, BUT...I've got a 9 foot ceiling and have no concern about ending height.

Mine is but one of a million ways to do it right
