Flowering male from 600HPS to -> CFLs

Hi,

I got a male in flower with the girls at 2-3 weeks now under a 600W HPS, question is, is 2-4 38W CFL's enough to make this stud drop pollen if I transfer him to a safe location away from the girls? Do the light need to be 12/12 or can i just blast him 24h and the pollen will develop/drop?

Thanks!

anyone? I thought this might be a way to avoid the constant checking on the ripeness of the balls (thought I'd cut the branches just before they start shooting and put them in water to collect the pollen)

I would say 'yes'. I grow with CFL's all the time.
Ok, but do you think that there could be problems moving the male under a 600W powerful light to small CFLs?

What would the minimum CFL wattage be to keep the flowering going on? I remember reading somewhere that you need suprisingly little light to keep the flowering going, ie. a single CFL or something like that.

Would 2x 38W CFLs pointed at the flowerclusters be enough to get some pollen? And does the light cycle have to be 12/12 or can i just use 24h on?

I'm no expert, but I think moving from stronger to weaker light will not be a problem.

I think 2X 38W CFL's would be enough to flower any cannabis plant male or female.

I don't think flowering occurs under 24h- your boy will just re-veg if you do that. I think.

i dont have specific answers but i'll tell you what i've done in the past. when a male develops nice full flowers and seems ready to pop in a few days or so, i cut the entire branch off. then i stick the removed branches in a cup of tap water ph'd to about 6.2 or so. i then leave those branches in normal room conditions. mine usually end up on top of the entertainment center next to the tv in the living room. in a couple days the flowers will pop and dispense their pollen on to sheets of aluminum foil placed under them where i gather it up and store it for later use. i can usually get pollen for a few days that way. but, ya, nothing special as far as lighting or anything else. i've done this with males from outdoor and indoor under 1000w.
just some info for you, good luck

Thanks for the input everyone! I was going to do the remove-branches thing myself but was a little nervous keeping the male with the girls for that long, heard a lot of horror stories about a ball that was missed an popped before being noticed etc.

The male is now in a different room beamed by 2x38W CFLS, lets see what happens. :tiphat:

I have moved the male from 600 W HPS to some little CFL (23 W in the basement shower LOL) several times in the past and made some seeds. Every thing seems to work well for me. I wired the CFL's so I get 4 or 5 together and that seems to be enough light for pollination.
