What a pain in the ass. Foreclosure finally went through and we had to move. In a nice apartment now, but am a little leery about setting up a small cab. What advice can y;all give about cab grows in apt complexes. I am planning on doubling up on the odor control, but what else? If the smell is nonexistent (which it WILL be...) and the cab locked and blocked in the garage (mid-day temps in the garage, even during this unbearable heat have not gone above 83deg!) I really don't like the fact that the bug man and maintenance man have access, plus the piggies can get search permission from the management and don't need mine. PLUS there is a K-9 piggie that lives in the complex, not real close - 2 buildings away - but close enough.
Is it worth the risk?
Hey Slow....I've been running my cab for a few years now without problems (in england but it is the same problems).
I run the lights at night, so that the fan is NOT on during the day when someone might come in without me being there. It is cheaper at night also. I veg with CFL or LED so heat is low and no need for fans.
Throw empty boxes on top of the cab and leave several full boxes in front of the cab...make it look like unpacked shit you will never get around to unpacking. Make sure they are heavy...mine are full of books. It is part of my routine every morning to put them back in place in front of the cab.
Backflow damper is a key ingredient for me. I only run the fan and carbon filters when the lights are on...but don't want the smell seeping out during non-running hours. Between the backflow damper and a sealing job that is near airtight, I have had normal people standing in front of the cab without any idea of it's purpose. Of course, I have lost the keys to the cabinet should anyone ask about it...no worries just full of old girlfriends shit she may come for someday...the evil bitch....hahaha.
I also have a vase of dried flowers in the room with the cab. You
know those really stinky ones that women love and men hate and sold at Michaels. It is a old dirty vase but always nice smelly flowers....and in an obvious place so anyone can see the source of the odor...wife or girlfriend is the obvious reason you own these horrible things.
And of course, in a garage, you can always keep a nice pint of latex or enamel paint in there with the top removed. Stir it up weekly until it is completely dry, then replace it. However, this is not very healthy.
But with a K-9 in the vicinity, I would definitely move the whole thing indoors. Call me paranoid, but I don't want to learn about K-9 smelling abilities from jail. The po-po could just walk his dog past your place, as dog owners tend to do. Too much risk for me. I'd rather have it in my bedroom, outta dog reach.
My two cents. I have been growing in a cab in england for several years now, in those industrial row houses like in charles dickens. Only one scare during the yearly gas utility inspection...which turned out to be a non-event.
Hope some of the wordy shit helps you.
