DAMN. SICK. OF. FIGHTING. THESE. BASTARDS!

Still working on the right formulation of essential oils and I've made a lot of progress, but I haven't defeated them yet. Man I was wishing for a hard freeze this year to knock the bugs back.

Already saw lubbers hatching out so the cutworms will probably be close behind - if you have seedlings or young starts outside now or soon, watch them closely. This could be a record year for bug issues.

Use some Tritek, suffocate them. Plain and simple. Paraffin oil mixed up does the trick. Hundreds of organic farmers cant be wrong take it from me

Damn bro them little fuckers that sucks

I fight Whiteflies all the time. No matter what I do, no matter how low I get their population, those fuckers are always around. I don't let it ever get bad. Ie: when I shake a plant if more than 1-2 come off, that's bad. If more than 1 plant has them at a time, that's bad. I can usually keep them to a single plant.

Thanks for the advice, rather than dive bombing every thread you can find to get your post count up, maybe read what I wrote :dunno:

Yes they do, lots of folks have them and never even notice

This is one bud on one plant out of 8 in my cabinet. They are not out of control but they are most persistant little bastards I've ever dealt with. I feel your pain CG, I'm just really tired of dealing with them. I guess everybody has a different issue in their grow if they are wise enough to recognize it.

Juvenile spider mites are tiny. Outside they have natural predators so you might not ever notice them as you don't see the webbing on the flowers until they have set up house and have made great great grandkids. Just like aphids, they tend to attack and infest the weakest plants.

In the past, I've purposely grown shitty, weak plants that I neglected and then watched as that plant was the first to show signs of any infestation - canary in the coal mine if you will.

Milkweed is another great indicator - once the catterpillars have eaten the leaves, if there are aphids present they usually attack the milkweed in it's weakened state. Where there are aphids, spider mites usually follow closely behind.

Just like other pests, once the population gets a foot hold on the weak plants, they will move on to the nearest, weakest plant.

Most commercial miticides are expensive, systemic (you don't want that in your end product) and the mites develop resistance to them rather quickly. They have a reproductive cycle of under two weeks (if memory serves) and upon death from anything, their last act is to lay more eggs which can lie dormant for a long time until things change and they hatch out again.

Any oil applied enough will kill the mites. Depending on the oil used, it may not be the best for your end product.

Essential oils of rosemary have been proven to be the best organic miticide as they also act as an IGR and I based my mix on the MSDS of a commercial rosemary oil miticide.

I'm still trying to figure out the optimal concentration and treatment frequency so I can eradicate the mites but not burn any plants. Some strains are more sensitive to oils than others. The part that sold me is that they are safe to use in flower right up to harvest since they degrade quickly under light.

Heat treatments (120F for 20 minutes) have proven effective for eradicating spider mites and their dormant eggs (similar to bedbug treatments) and I do that to the cab in between crops to sterilize that but it looks like I may have to try that with the new plants inside as well since.......My main issue is that I am vegging plants outside and then bringing them into the cab to flower. That means if I miss any mites with the spray at any time, I will see what I saw in the picture above.

If you've ever really delved into the details of a "clean room commercial grow" these little bastards, aphids thrips and whiteflies are the main reasons the technology exists.

They travel by air current and by hitch hiking on anything and everything from your pets to your pant legs.. There's a really good chance these might have been introduced through my contact with these plants as sometimes I am rushed for time and don't disinfect myself when moving from outside plants to inside plants.
