FLORAMITE: Killed my moms, what did I do wrong?

Well I always had a managable issue with spide mites, using OMRI rated sprays in veg. I purchased some floramite in order to have some real ammo if it ever got out of control.

Well I went an extra day without watering, can to a very thirsty plant covered in mites :( I mixed 20drops of Floramite into 32oz sprayer. After watering I sprayed the tops and bottoms well, shook the plant a little to get off any puddles. Placed back in the cab, 12hours later those plants are very pale and shrivelled.

What did I do wrong? I would like to start spraying all my plants before going into flower in order to ensure a clean flower cab. It's micro so nothing major, but when I have an issue it can spread very fast due to size.

I didn't think it would be that hard, spray plants, walk away but I still managed to screw it up :(

I use the same dose and have never had a problem. The mites have, though. It killed them and not the plants.

1) Floramite didn't kill your plants, you (accidentally) did.
The pH of the water you mixed it with has to be adjusted to 6.0 before you mix the floramite-and that, imo,is what killed your plants....A mis-mixed, high (or) low pH spray....
Floramite is pretty innocuous,if used properly....Don't spray it on freshly-rooted clones' tender young tissue, and don't fuck up the pH of the mixed spray.

2)****Avid is some seriously fucked up toxin that causes nerve damage.
Avoid it at ALL costs.

So sorry about your moms, that bites- really:( I am curious however, the issue of these miticides for me has been that they are systemic and do not break down- ever. I was told that once introduced to the environment it would always be in the environment. For instance, the walls would continue to emit carcinogens, forever. Thus ensuring, those of us within those walls would be at risk of illness. If I am to understand correctly what I have been told, I would just as soon seek out alternatives to avid and floramite. If I am mistaken would someone please clarify the precise dangers of introducing these classes of pesticides into the environment.

Nah,floramite tested innocuous.
(Avid,however,is toxic as hell,and shouldn't be used by anyone,ever.)
(And floramite's not carcinogenic,either-)
Use a search engine, the test results are published, and easily found.
Floramite was (unfortunately) tested on animals, and generally found to be non-threatening.

As I mentioned in the topic, I figured it was something I did. After this comment I though that was the answer. Howver I just tested the ph of the floramite solution and according to my strips is at 5.8. Would that still have caused my issue? The lights come back on in a few hours. They may recover some the issue as I want to give them a fighting chance.

I have some seedlings that have the mites on them as well is there a best solution for them or the same spray and walk away.

how long after you sprayed them down did you put them back under the light?

right after. That could also be my issue sprayed then roughly 6-7 hours of light left.

When spraying should it be done just before lights out?

thats what did it dude imo.
you cannot spray plants and then put them right under light
I like to let mine stay in the dark for an hour before I turn the lights back on but some people spray 15min before lights on...

better luck next time

if your plants were a bit dehydrated when you sprayed that probably wouldnt help either.(if you watered just before you sprayed then they could still be dehydrated for an hour or so after)

well I went back and tried floramite again on some seedlings that were on 3th node. I kept them outside of the cabinet for about 2hrs prior to putting them back under the light. They were perfect the next day, so I know where I went wrong. Lesson Learned, blame the user not the product :)

If I missed something, I never saw directions on my bottle of Floramite concerning pH issues and never had problems with using regular tapwater.
What did raise an eyebrow though was "20 drops per 32 oz". That's wayyyy too much IMO for a quart. "20 Drops" sounds more like dosage for a GALLON.
This may have been your problem, Squeeky. Good luck.

my 1oz bottle's instructiions read "15-30 drops per L"
I added 20 drops to a L of h20 last year and haven;t had a mite problem since FYI

Greyskull, I actually saw several post that stated 10-30 drops per L, and since a liter is roughly 34oz, I figured 20drops would be fine. However now I know I can cut that back a lot! Thus saving my precious floramite. I was able to save one of the moms, though I will wait a week before taking any more clones.
