flora nova

i have been using this flora nova stuff for a little over a week, and i love it. i have just gone up to 1.7 teaspoons/gal. i noticed on the bottle it states that 3teaspoons/gal is the max streingth. i am a little apprehensive to add so much to the water. is this an overdose? my plants still look fine, and i want to give them as much as possable without hurting them

what about the floranova green, for veg, I,m currently doing about 500 ppm to 600 ppm and the plants are 1 month old. They arn't showing any sign of nute burn, but two or three leaves seem to pucker a little.
I want to put them on to twelve hours soon, some say to still do the veg ferts for about 10 days then go to the bloom. What do you think! thanks anna { the reason for the ten days on veg ferts is to stop the streach.}

Floranova at the recommended strength on the bottle is indeed too strong...

I used it for my first grow, and consistently burnt the leaf tips even though I was simply following directions.

@anna: Continue feeding your plants veg nutrients for a week or so after flipping to 12/12. While this might assist a little with the stretch, there's no real hope of fully stopping it. It's more or less to help the plant transition into flowering and to assure that there is enough N to go around until the buds are ready to start their development...

i use it and you have to be careful. ive burned plants pretty easily by not knowing to dilute it and not go full streentgh.

but should i be adding lime to my soil mix with tihs stuff? it says the all in one fert. i added lime this run and have had rust spots the whole grow. i thought it was a N def as there was some yelloing but im not sure if i had too much of one thing from the lime i added.

also it buffs the ph back to 6.0...is that ok to put into my plants? or should i adjust it back to 6.5 or so. using soil by the way with perelite :). with the lime it always reads 7.0 on my ph meter so i wasnt sure if i should be adjusting it back up...thanks

they say 7 ph is good for soil, I personally like rockwool, dirt is to hard to control for me. Flipping soon hope all goes well!!

I'm currently growing in Pro-Mix (with a little gardening lime added in) and using Flora Nova Grow (will be also using Flora-Nova bloom when the time comes). Here's what I do. (Note: I am not using a gallon of water yet as this would be wasting water since my plants dont take a a gallon among 3 of them yet - I measure in ppm's) First, I add 2ml's of Cal+Mag. I then add 4ml's of Age Old Kelp. This gets my ppm's to about 250-300 (using RO water tested @ about 12-15 ppm). Then I add the Flora Nova Grow. Yesterday I got the PPM's up to 1250. This is where it's going to stay until flower. The week before, the ppm's were about 900 and the week before I started feeding at about 500.

The plants have exploded in growth. I'm talking seriously EXPLODED.

The only drawback here, and Im not sure which of the 3 additions is causing this, but the initial pH of the water drops to ~4. Yesterday it dropped to 3.2!! So I slowly add GH's pH Up (5 drops at a time, mix, check, repeat) until I get it to 5.6/5.7 (remember, this is pro-mix, not soil). Once that is done, I feed. I checked the runoff last night and it was at exactly 6.8!!

The plants are green, look healthy with no deformities of the leaves (curling, cupping, bowing, etc), no spots except for the ones that were already there from when I burned them with way too high pH the first time I fed and didn't check the pH and only checked the runoff and waited until the next day to flush.

But thus far, the Flora Nova Grow has given me explosive growth. And I don't know if it's the nutrients I'm using or what, but the center shoot has slowed down and all of the secondary growth has begun growing out as through I FIM'd the plants. I love the Flora Nova. Big fan. BIG BIG fan :)

[EDIT: I'm waiting for these 3 to show their sex. Once that happens, I will be cloningand I am going to be also adding microrhizzae to the clone's pro-mix. I cannot wait to see how that turns out.]

marx how much FN grow are you adding to take the pH to ~4? How much water is it being added to? Just wondering because I started using FN grow 5ml to the gallon with 3-4ml of Cal-Mag... and I don't have any pH monitoring yet (trying to get away without it)...

thanks

I really couldnt be sure as I dont measure how much water I have to begin with. But I think Im putting in 5-7ml of FN. Maybe 8ml. I would seriously suggest getting a pH pen and a ppm pen. Before using those, I had very crappy, unhealthy plants for the entire grow cycle that would be stressed always due to pH issues and Im guessing lockups because of it. This grow, it's been picture perfect!

you guys that consistently use floranova, do you add/need to add cal-mag or epsom salt to the mix? i still use the 1 gal jugs of GH M,G, and B from when i was starting out, but plan on switching over to floranova when it runs out. i also use N.L. fat flower as an additive. are there ever any lockout problems if the mix with water sits a few days?

My veggies began to curl their leaves like a taco until I started adding the CalMag. The same thing happened back when I was doing hydro. Thats why I got the CalMag.

It looks like they took 1250ppm just fine the last time I watered. I bumped it up to 1300. Let's see what happens :D

I think when considering strength of nutrients is that plants are different and use different amounts. I would say start low and move up. Dial in your nutes. You dont need to push it to the limit to get good buds. Some need more and some need less so be cautious. I think many people contribute way to many bud qualities to outside sources like lights and nutrients. I would say a lot of is strain dependent. I used flora nova bloom and it worked great for me. It is easy being that its a 1 part nutrient. Low maintenance overall a great product. Just take it easy til your plant shows you that it wants more. little difficiencies arent going to kill your plant or hinder them much.

peace

I think I'm going to stay at 1300ppm as 250ppm of that is CalMag and Age Old Kelp (the ro water is 12 ppm).. I think that should be fine for the entire veg cycle.

First week of flower I plan to halve the veg ppm and bring it back up to 1300ppm with bloom (so basically if it's 250ppm CalMag + Age Old Kelp, that gives me 1050ppm Flora Nova Veg. So during 1st week of flower, I plan on doing 500ppm veg + 500ppm bloom, then switching to bloom for the feeding after that.)

How's that sound?

to those of you who use 8ml of the bloom during flowering...do you use it every watereing? every other watering? do you add dolomite lime or cal mag or somehting to it?

i use 1/4 strenght every watering but its all yellowing and dieing off. about mid flower so i know some yelloiwng is normal but its REAL yellow and lots of leaves just brown and crumble off.

I would check what sort of ppm youre actually working with. 1/4 strength bloom during mid-flower? Shit, I'm at 1300ppm with cal+mag, Flora Nova Veg and Old Age Kelp in mid-veg and the plants are loving it. The Flora Nova bottle suggests 1200ppm in mid to end cycles. I'm guessing you're UNDER-feeding. I'm also feeding at every watering which is coming out to about twice a week. I'm using straight pro-mix with a little pelletized gardening lime mixed in.

Here's their feed schedule:
http://www.generalhydroponics.com/genhydro_US/GH_Feed-Chart.pdf

For blooming, they suggest up to 1000-1400ppm!

Are you checking your pH?

by adding molassas I hope this will take care of the cal mag issues, second week into flower and the plants look good, I'm on to 600 ppm and going to raise to 700 ppm, I'm using rockwool and hand watering three times a day. Hope all goes well, I hope to hear more input. thanks anna

My plants have shown sex while in veg 3 for 3 female.. yay!
I am ramping down the ppm of the FN Grow from 1300 down to 500 to keep it in perpetual veg and slow down its' growth rate and keep it in perpetual veg. I dropped it from 1300ppm in the watering before last to 700ppm in thelast watering and the next time I water, it will be at 500ppm. Then I will only feed every other watering. But yeah, even at 1300ppm , they're lovin it.
