Any thoughts here? I've worked on hospital building projects that utilize lead backed drywall for x-ray/mri/ct rooms. I've considered enclosing a grow show in the same manor. I realize the FLIR will detect any heat signature that radiates through the board by thermal transfer but it would certainly block the IR rays from penetrating beyond the lead shielding to get any clear idea of what's on the other side or that there even is an other side.
The scarier technology and programs being instituted currently are the "green" ones for energy use. Currently optional service by elect. suppliers to reduce carbon foot print by installing watt mizers and two way communication ties to your elect. panel to help you save energy and identify homes that need energy audits and what not. At a minimum showing up at your door with a box of complimentary CFLs for you to change out.
Personally, before coming on the grid with a grow I changed every bulb over, updated fridge, changed elect. furnace to gas, got rid of projection tv, etc... all the same day as turning on the HIDs. Additionally I'll swap circuit usage among 4 different panels/meters (rental house) every so often to break up any electrical use patterns.
