If you are very worried about FLIR,
then LED is the direction you might want to go. :good:

The thing is once one is on the radar being followed up with an investigation using FLIR then LED's are not going to keep LEO from having you by the balls - FLIR and LED's or not - one IS screwed either way.

Id still rather have the security of FLIR sheeting/proper Mylar etc for extra protection & piece of mind.
That attic picture, terribly insulated & asking for trouble, should always consider security, it wont be long they will have equipment to see through walls, if they havent already!

Nothing a bit of lead wouldn't fix, but then they'd wonder what you had going on that you needed a lead lined attic.

Perhaps answering the door with a tin foil hat and lots of cats might help.

Obviously the effectiveness of most security risk mitigation methods is reduced drastically once they're already onto you. So I don't really see how that's LEDs problem.

This thread seems to be about evading detection by FLIR, lowering your heat signature by using alternative methods of lighting is one way to do that.

I think what most of us here are worried about is flyovers or drive-bys. If you're being investigated with a FLIR device then like you said, your already in hot water and it may be too late.

Making this thread about how effective LEDs are vs traditional HID lighting would be derailing it. I'll just say that they make more sense in certain situations. Maybe HID is better for you, maybe it's LED. Everybody's situation is different.

You can buy specific anti FLIR sheeting, similar to mylar! worth the extra few quid imo! If growers overlook security, expect a visit at any moment! as the opening pics show, they can see if people overlook this issue! Id rather spend the little extra cash & stay outta the big house"! at least improves your chances & is one security aspect covered!

i was browsing around craigslist once and there was a guy who was advertising his "home insulation efficiency testing service".... he listed in his ad about how he uses a handheld "flir" unit to measure and detect the efficiency/inefficiency of ones home/building...

immediately upon viewing this ad, all i could think was "damn I bet 100 bucks that the guy who is running this business is someone from ICMAG who used their brain and went and used some of their weed profits to buy a handheld flir unit toy for their own fun and decided to try and start a business out of it"..... pretty darn good business idea if ya ask me! especially in this day in age with the whole "going green" campaign that our country is pushing... only 1200$ overhead to start a potentially lucrative business sounds like its worth the shot.... now that I have given you guys this info, i think it would be cool if someone reading this went out and did it! Wouldn't be the first time i was involved with sharing an idea that made someone wealthy! Sharing the wealth is the way to go!

:chin: upon further thought, i have not checked back to see the guy i spoke of is still advertising on CL.... not knocking on stoners or anything :shucks: , but i wouldn't be surprised if the damn flir gun was collecting dust on this guys shelf as he sits in his lazyboy smoking doobies and eating taco bell... :biglaugh:

someone go out there and represent us stoners well!

another business idea would be for growshops... they could buy a device and rent it out to customers so they can run tests on their own grow area... obviously there might have to be some sort of privacy issue here, but perhaps somehow someway this could be figured out... (1500$ cash colateral refunded upon return of unit :huggg: ? if ur a large grow boy/gal you could spot that!)

Hand held Flir units can be rented by the day. Venders can be found online easily. HVAC contractors in major markets use them fairly regularly for survey and maintenance purposes.
Even marine grade Flir units are becoming more commonly installed on yachts to help assist night time navagations in congested marinas.
A handheld unit that we rented for work purposes a few months ago was about the size of a large clamshell cell phone.

They are becoming smaller, cheaper and more commonly used.

The thing is some of you still don't seem (want?) to get it.

Once you ARE being investigated with a FLIR device hiding your heat signature is just delaying the evidence seeked.
They WILL get you in one or the other way.

For those who still don't get it:

So in other words why hiding your heat sig because you won't be investigated with FLIR as long as you are not on the radar.
Once you ARE above the radar hence being investigated with FLIR...hiding your heat sig won't really make a difference, the result will still be the same, they'll just get you a different way.

Hiding your heat sig is just another marketing tool.

This is the reality of it...

You know some of the 'rebels' fighting us still have a horse (or camel) cavalry.
And even our Gov't has a FINITE amount of resources, especially in a recession when the rest of the World is hesitant to LEND us money.
"USA I.O.U.s" aren't worth what they used to be.
:blowbubbles:

P.S. First fucking good flowers I have seen under an LED. I shall have to experiment. If you could please PM with more details, I would be appreciated, but I won't suck your dick...Not yet.

Red~ that hellfire was bad ass! Loved that the pilot starting bitching bout opening up the 50... lol

Here's a point a buddy of mine just can't seem to wrap his head around... our equipment produces heat that is finite, over time... and that heat has to go somewhere.

Even if you shield/insulate the hell out of your rooms... you still have to vent, or use a/c's... and still vent the a/c's... the heat can't stay in the rooms, for obvious reasons.

Basements in cold climates & small grows (LED) aside, we produce a lot of heat & it will register somewhere as we exchange it out. If you insulate the room, it still has to dump out through the air vents and/or heat exchange of the a/c.

Both of those will light up a FLIR... and is what needs to be worried on... but what can really be done??? We produce heat & must remove it... and that will show somewhere, should anyone spend a little bit of effort to explore, technology or no.

If you are growing, and someone comes a looking, they will find you... FLIR film all ya like... you still have the a/c a pumping (where others aren't)... you still have a wall or roof vent pumping out a hot plume of air. And you can still have a state-of-the-art, super insulated room.

Again... this assumes you are firing anything of substance.

I think it would be much harder to spot a 6 or 8" outlet venting into an attic or through a cavity wall, than the whole house lit up like an xmas tree, chimneys are cool outlets when used properly, even placing outlet ducting next to your houses heating outlet would help mask the FLIR. Better to do it/do something about it, rather than not bother. Make it tough for them not easy!

Buy a couple thousand feet of poly tubing, bury it ten feet deep, run it to a 'Climate Master' ,or similar, heat exchanger and plumb that into a bunch of radiators, inline or not.
What really matters is that you calculate your heat sink capacity and tonnage correctly, don't forget to adjust for seasonal differences.

Ironic, this comes from Oklahoma.

That doesnt apply in the UK bro at all! Pig helicopters use their FLIR at night & spot this shit man, how many tv shows have indicated this, ive seen it happen a few times. They watch out for the tell tale signs & report back.
Security first everytime, you'll stay outta jail longer!
