Well properly it runs constant 12/12 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 a year unless your changing bulbs. Its like the central heating for the knowledgeable imagion if you had a big mannor house wink!!!

2400w grow single room == 2400 watt hours.
1200w grow dual room (like with the flip) == 2400 watt hours.

same power, double'd effectiveness - and though dumping heat from ballast 24hrs instead of 12, dumping at half the rate so perhaps easier to absorb or pass off/along/etc.
