OK so I decided that it was time to finally start growing some herb. I have wanted to for so many years but it is time now. I started with bad seed just to get the hang of it before I move to good seeds. I have 3 plants growing now the big one is 7 weeks from seed and the other two are about 3 weeks from seed. I am using a 400 watt MH with a enhanced spectrum HPS on the way for flowering. How do they look so far. Any advice would rock!

Very nice first grow! I hope soon all you smoke will be from your grows (nothing is better).

Looks like you have the same value-brite cheapo reflector that I do.. it works but I definitely want to upgrade to something a bit better in the future..

As far as your plants go they all look really green and healthy under that MH. From your pics it looks like you're growing in a closet... What kind of ventilation are you working with? Just an oscilating fan or do you have some ac in there or what?

The 7 week old one has really dense undergrowth which is kind of interesting. It's ready to flower whenever you are.. Just so you can get a genreal idea of how much it will grow during flowering compare these girls and guys which are at about 5 weeks veg (30-35 days roughly)

To this picture which shows one of those above plants at day 36 of flowering..

Granted there's nothing for size comparison in these pictures, but you get the idea that she over doubled in size.

It looks like you've got genetics with a good mix of sativa and indica so expect a plant full of trichomes! Anymore questions and I might be able to help.. The plant in the pics is the one i'm growing now and its from bagseed too.

Ok here is some more info on my grow.

The soil is 50-60% miracle grow moisture control and 40-50% Perlite.
The seeds came from some pretty decent Mid grade bud that had a few red hairs. They were also kinda small nugs though.
I water them with distilled water although I still want to get a ph meter. Right now I am using Mir. Grow bloom booster(15-30-15) which i know is not the best thing right now but like i said its my first grow. The original big plant is about 13 inches tall. I trimmed off alot of her fan leaves ( I think thats what they are called) becuase someone told me they just suck the life out of the plant and dont do much. I dont know though they were huge leave that from tip to tip were like 16 inches or more.
Should I have cut them or not?
Can my small ones go ahead and be put into flowering?
How can you tell the sativa to indica ratio?
Do you think this will come out decent?
Sorry for so many questions I just want the best looking bud I can possibly grow.

cutting too many fan leaves will stress your plant and degrade potency. the fan leaves store all the plant energy used to produce your buds, some people dont have a problem with cutting them and others do....its all different opinions, an alternative would be folding back your fan leaves so you still have them around but are not in the way...good luck

Do you think this plant looks like it could turn out good or does it look like it will be crap? Maybe you cant even tell yet.

The way someone can roughly tell how much indica traits and sativa traits are in a plant is by looking at the shape of the fan leaves..

Sativas have really long skinny leaves with jagged edges and they are usually 7, 9, 11, and even 13 tipped leaves.

Indicas usually have fatter leaves that are very rounded with smoother edges and they are typically 3 or 5 tipped.

Your leaves look like a mixture of the two. Youve got some 9 tippers but they are fat leaves

This plant is mostly sativa as you can tell by the leaves.

Also in flowering indicas finish quicker and usually pack on a lot more crystals.

The high of the smoked buds of each type have different characteristics as well.. I could go on and on but you'll figure it out eventually

Ok here is another question. Like a week ago the plant stopped developing the top fan leaves and just kept getting bushier and somewhat taller but its not developing any of the new small fan leaves. Is that normal? thanks again for all the advice. I thought it sounded funny to cut the fan leaves.

Its probably ready to go into flowering man... At 7 weeks its definitely ready

I wouldn't worry about the top not growing much. It seems like your plant is focusing more of its energy into developing those lower nodes for some reason. Which is all right, but I've just never seen that before. Put her into flowering and see what happens.

Actually.. now that I think of it.. Has it even showed any preflowers yet??

Well I have been looking everyday for them but so far I really cant see any with the naked eye. I really need to get something to magnify it bad.

Ok well just put them on 12/12 cycle so wish me luck.

Oh and the big one is showing preflowers but I cant tell what it is yet. I need some magnifcation.
