First time grower, almost ready to go

S

Sirus

Looks like you got a good set-up going bro! I have a DR100L and its done very well so far. I too wanted to go all out and have CO2 running. I am still trying to figure it in...I know its not sealed but if I can get the exhaust fan to stop running, it will boost the ambient CO2 levels. I will prolly eat through the tanks though..

Looking forward towards your first grow around bro! good luck! :good: :lurk:

Thanks man, I appreciate it :). I spent a few months researching the tent, ducting, lighting, etc.

Everything is in the mail, just waiting to get the tent to buy the tubs I want for sure.

Hemp: I actually found that same link not too long after, and I just got back from the store getting all the supplies for it.

Sirus: I'm not going to mess with CO2 this time around, if only to get a base line. But if you had your fan on a thermostat/fan controller (like in HempAlchemist's link) to maintain a low negative pressure at all times, could you set the CO2 tanks as the heat component of the thermostat? I have no idea about wiring, this is me just thinking "out loud" (and rambling 'cause I be burnin' the reefers :smokeit: ).
--But I think I might do mushrooms at some point like deidree barlow suggested.

After just looking briefly at CO2 tanks, I found this Active Air CO2 System (.2 - 2 cfh), and the calculator link on their suggested I'd barely have to run it to get 1500 ppm...so you'll still be filtering a little bit from the fan maintaing the negative pressure, but set the CO2 disbursement a bit higher and hook the regulator up to the heating element on your thermostat. You'll cycle out some CO2, but I venture a guess it's still going to be higher ppm in that tent than than what the passive intake is brining in.
All this being said, you'd probably have to get a fancier thermostat that will control both heat and cold, instead of just a heat/cold only thermo.
ERK. After actually reading about plants, realized that they're using CO2 in day, not night. Sorry for the ramblings, guys.

Also, I'm thinking about hooking up my exhaust from the light and circulator together via a Y joint and pump out of via my place's dryer ducting? I can even make a nice little filter filled with dryer sheets to give it a nice smell. I'm always going to have the circulator running, so I shouldn't have air backing up into my system. I know that I'll be losing force in ducting by going that far, but will it actually work the fans harder to do that? I just wanted to see what you all thought of this?

Alright, off to check the package tracking again! I can't wait hear the sound of green goodness growing haha

Thanks for all the responses guys! They've been VERY helpful :)

I hope some of that made sense...if any of it sounds interesting, but you can't follow me, please feel free to ask for a clarification. I'm feeling like Toweleeee right now :smokeit:

Just wanted to do a quick update for y'all...

Got everything, just waiting on my genetics (I'll post the list tomorrow hopefully). I need to go by lowe's and buy the tubs and a couple clip on fans, but otherwise everything is set up. I'll put up pics of the set up when I list my genetics. Effing stoked!

Ok, so pictures have to wait a bit. Wife had a car wreck so slight delay in getting everything started. The strains ordered, though are as follows

World of Seeds Legend Collection Star 47
World of Seeds Legend Collection New York Special
Dutch Passion Shaman Feminized
Female Seeds X-Line Bubblegummer
World of Seeds Diamond Line High Tension Feminized
Female Seeds X-Line Iced Grapefruit
Sweet Seeds Cream Caramel Feminized
Ministry of Cannabis Shanti Femnized Seeds
G13 Labs Blueberry Gum Feminized
(damn, after looking at the whole list, I might have gotten a little carried away while ordering...)

Anyone have experience with any of these? For the first grow, I'd like to do two strains (if possible) that are good for pain and/or migraines. I was thinking the NYCD and Bubblegummer or Blueberry Gum. Second go round, I think I'm going to go with the Dutch Passion Shanti, and can't decide if I want to do two strains in that one or not.

Thanks all!

If it is ur first run ever...might I suggest something? Run one strain at a time. If u knew to this and run two strains at same time u might find it a bit harder because of the fact that different strains need different nutes, topping, etc during the grow. For instance, running two strains side by side one will look nice and green and healthy, but the other is lacking in something. Now you find urself making two separate nutes batches. I guess what I am trying to say is that as a new grower and it being ur 1st run you might want to take out any possible problems ahead of time...growing only one strain is a good way to start....then again, this is just all from my own experience. Good luck.:tiphat:

Thanks for the input JC. I figured running one strain would be the safe bet, but I didn't know if running rDWC using the Lucas 2.0 would help alleviate some of the issues. I'll probably end up running one strain, but I was hoping to get some variety from my garden :yummy:

I hope I get the seeds in soon enough to start my grow this coming weekend...after that I have exams and life as I know it ends haha.

Well, J.C. saw ur long seed list to choose from. Another idea for you to make things easier....have you done any research on the seeds u have? for instance, (just as example) c99...one of the reasons why I loved the strain for so long is that u CAN in essence have some variety with that strain.....pull down at day 50-55 and it a nice high IMO....pull it at day 65-70 and it time for the couch. So if u run one strain after doing some research about the seeds u have and find out which one you could do this with? I.E. pull down most of room at day 55 and leave one or two in there for another 10 days or more....
Just thoughts man....good luck with it.

I REALLY like that idea! I've done some research on my strains, but not quite that much...I was going to start with an Indica heavy (my wife and I get migraines and I tend to have backaches) so from what I've read that might not be the best to cut later. I'd like to be able to move! haha.

I think my Blueberry Gum and Cream Caramel have similar enough profiles that I might try to give that a go. Both indica heavy hybrids with similar projected harvest times.

Hope I don't sound unappreciative of the advice because despite the research that I've done on growing, I know that absolutely nothing beats experience!

Once exams are over, the grow journal goes up!

Thanks again J.C. and everybody else who commented!:thank you:

Hey Doc,

Check out FemaleSeeds for sure, I highly recommend them, I have some bubblegummer and pure ak vegging out right now!

Also, you might want to check out the K.I.S.S. method thread in growers/nutrients & fertilizers...

I am still a new grower but if I could go back 2 years here is what advice I would give myself:

Keep it simple! A one part nute like floranova or maxibloom is the way to go for sure.

Since you are doing DWC, make sure you have a big enough air pump and keep your temps in check, and use something like sm-90 or aquashield to keep root rot in check.

Props on jumping right into hydro... crushes soil in every way IMO.

Good luck !

Thanks for dropping in with the advice phatty! I think I have my nute system and don't anticipate too much trouble. Shooting for the Lucas 2.0 as described here http://forum.grasscity.com/advanced...s-formula-2-0-how-maximize-lucas-formula.html

Journal is going up soon! Exams are done in a couple hours and my time will then be devoted to my little ladies!

And I just had a question for anyone with thoughts on the matter...I'd like to continue updating my grow tent, and I was thinking about trying for 2x600 HPS in a couple of cool tubes like this with a 450 CFM vortex fan blowing air across them and another 400 CFM vortex fan pushing air out of the tent by way of a carbon filter. What does everyone think about this as far as temperature management?
