What's new

First time APBT owner

I've been thinkin on it for a while and I wanna get an APBT breed. I've had mostly labs in my life and I wanna get something with a bit more personality (I love labs tho!)

Where in CA is a reputable kennel? I've been googling and shit but I really can't tell from any of the websites, most of them say they breed for mouth size and other shit like that. I really don't want an overbred line, just that classic APBT look. None of that huge mouth short ass bully shit.

Attached pic is sort of what I'm looking for.

Any info is appreciated, and post your ABPT pics!

If you wanna pay the price, check Big Boi's Champagne Blue line.

I have always been a fan of the larger (taller) dogs though.

Mine used to literally stop traffic. I heard he was some sort of cross between an American Bulldog and a bull terrier (like spuds). Those are the old school joints. We call em hogdogs here.

Good luck bud.

I second the idea of getting an APBT from a rescue if at all possible. I have 3 of my own and one foster at the moment.

Here's my APBT/ABD mix, he's an altered male 13 mos @ 78lbs

He won't get much larger, maybe 10-15 lbs.

The APBT's will be slightly smaller, but they're all great dogs.

Here he is with his mother. You can see he's much taller and longer, she's all APBT.....His father was ABD.

Read everything you can before selecting a breed.

Peace,

Gro

I know right? It's just like buying good genetics in seeds. But he has been serious with that for a long time.

I checked that site out, what a joke. They clearly breeds dogs solely for money, not for the improvement of the breed. Just take a look at some of his sire's. This am bully bs is foolish. They've taken the best part of this breed and flushed it down the toilet for something that looks tough/gangsta' (nice song?! wtf). Pure ignorance. This is one of the most athletic capable breeds in the dog world. A natural aggressiveness is a part of this breeds genetic make up, it's what makes them what they are!!! Breeding this nature out of them is changing the breed, and making them anything but athletic. Alot/most of these am bullys have a hard time moving around!!!. Plus they have tons of health issues. Please get an APBT. Not an AM bully.

Above all else. Please be a responsible owner, not another turd who wants one of these dogs because it's cool or tough. These dogs require A LOT of time/training and they need a constant outlet for their energy. Without these your asking for trouble. If you cannot provide the right environment, get another breed.

Yea, the more of these kennel sites I look at the more turned off I am by the ones with lame ass music on them that don't even attempt to present themselves professionally. I didn't even hear the song on pitfall until just now, lame.

http://www.mealerspitbullfarm.com/index.html

This has been my favorite so far, but I'm becoming pretty wary of buying a dog on the internet. I'm gonna call around and see if theres not a kennel here locally.

And I have no qualms with rescuing animals, it's just I've never had a puppy. I've had 3 rescue dogs in my life and I've loved them all to death.

Don't be fooled into thinking you can't rescue a puppy. Not because I'm an advocate for the breed, which I am, but let me outline a couple of points for you.

A reputable rescue will ensure that you're recieving a healthy, altered dog who really needs a home and that includes puppies.

Kennels in most cases are just fronts for puppy mills that could give a rats azz if your pet has had all it's shots and been well-cared for.Any contact you may have with them ends when your check clears or the door hits you in the azz when leaving. Read about it, I'm not making this up.

Just try to get something rectified with one of these places after the fact....good luck.

In all fairness to respectable breeders, it's not always the case.....but respectable breeders want money and LOTS of it as you're coming to realize.

Which brings me to my last point....costs....often times a great, rescued puppy can be yours for less than 300.00 dollars and a signed contract (good rescues will visit your home) stating you will take care of the dog or return it.

It's a win/win in my book.

If you have ANY questions at all please feel free to ask.

Peace,

You know I looked at that link and there is younger staffordshire bull terrier, these are kinda like pits but smaller right? That might be good for me cause I don't have a big backyard.

I had a beautiful texas rednose...she was very strong, very good temper, great with kids, but very territorial towards women, she was a big time cockblocker.never bit or barked but she did make her presence felt when woman would comeover. she once ate a giant hole in my brand spankin new couch set, just to get to her bone...still loved her. But eventually I had to give her up,new job not enough time to keep her happy and it wasn't fair to her....Damn I miss Maggie.

Yes....My foster child at the moment is a Staffy.....Gingerbread.

She's about 14"-16" at the shoulder and 42lbs.....That's about as big as she'll get....BUT she still needs room to run or walked frequently.....That's inherent to the breed.

I run every day anywho, part of why I want a pit bull type breed :D

thanks for the info man, I think I'm gonna adopt one instead cause buying one is fucking expensive and I run the risk of having an overbred mutant dog.
