ive done some reading and went thru most of the stickys

forgive me its a lot to absorb

maybe someone could get me started and pointed in the right direct
hopefully all the varieties ive grown over the years will help me in selection

i have a variety of beans i would like to expand upon

my first projest is working with sour diesel

i have 2 reservoir privada sour D girls 2 different phenos kept
one sweet/fat and one sweet/sour/frosty
these are from feminized stock
currently first trial flower run is at 7 weeks and there both nice looking
i did have a hermie appear on 1 phenol out of 6.. the two i chose seem to be ok

i also have 6 cali connection sour D beans that just popped
these are regular so i hope to find a nice male and also compare the female phenos to the resvor prevada phenos

if i pollinate the cali sd male to the rsvr prevada female would the offspring be F2 generations?
and what ratio of offspring are likely to resemble the Parents

i also plan to cross the sour D female to a mandala ganesh male
the genash is a bit short and dense with thick stems rock hard buds

on a side note i also have a pack of regular cali budha Tahoe not yet arrived that id also like to create some f2 (if that's right) and cross to the ganesh

any advise would be appreciated

I wouldn't consider the two SDs from different seed makers an F2.
I'd almost be willing to bet the two varieties are related by name only. Idk... they could be kissin cousins.

Seems like you've got a decent plan so run with it & see what ya come up with.
Testing is the best part. Jejeje

thanks mjpassion

id like to start by creating more stock seeds to sort and pick from

would selecting and crossing a male and female from the same cali connection Sour D 10 pack provide f2
and am I correct in my understanding the f2 would provide a higher percentage of offspring that look like the parents with less variation,

or is back crossing required to achieve this?

and if I cross the prevada sour d to the cali sour d im essentially working with f1 offspring which would yield more diversity in offspring going back to grandparents

A sibling cross ftom the same pack would result in F2s. Yes
F2s in a normal breeding scheme would result in segregation of genes resulting in more variation within the offspring. As for cannabis that's not necessarily true since most lines, varieties, strains, whatever you want to call them , are not worked yo the point of being stabilized for any particular traits. It's a rare thing for most cannabis breeders to go much further than a simple cross resulting in polyhybrid crossed to polyhybrid which typically results in multiple phenos from a single pack of seeds.

Back cross, selfing, side cross, in cross, out cross... all tools used to realize a specifuc goal. Noone works better than an other it's all just a giant experiment for us amateurs in the hopes we can find our personal bests.

If I may make a suggestion,
Robert Connel Clark's MARIJUANA BOTANY would be an excellent reference for you. It's available as a download (i don't have a link) or as a hard copy for $35 new. Greg Green's book THE CANNABIS BREEDERS BIBLE is also available as download or hard copy.

Also, research Mendelian genetics.
