Don't mind the burn, just got them repositioned. 3 feet for 400 watt MH effecient? They were really close before but I was really busy. Also having some gnats.

400 should be ok a few feet away at least, just make it so it aint close enough to burn em.
My 400 is usually 2 feet for veg?

I read that if the light doesn't discomfort backside of your wrust at tops of plant the light is fine. Still burnt my plants tho. 2 feet seems fine

A good way to test light heat is to use the back of your hand under the light and hold it there for a bit if it's too hot for you its too hot for the plant, I also read somewhere that they like temps that we also feel comfortable in.
