First Grow, Pre-Flower Issues

Hi, this is my first post. I'm on my first grow and due to a wide range of limitations I'm experimenting with the space bucket route. I'm sure this forum is full of professional farmers with the luxury of owning their own home, live in a legal state, and have the resources to do it as well as possible, but I don't so please don't criticize for doing my best on $0/hour salary, renting in the city and being stuck in a country with Draconian drug laws where the mob controls most of the supply. It's also been so dry and hard to find and I've been ripped off innumerable times like crazy since moving home from the Colorado that I've resorted to investing in a very small stealth indoor grow for myself and hoping for the best.

That aside, I've got what I'm about 90-99% sure is a girl I started from seed under 24/0 of five 24W cool daylight CFLs and flat white walls in the bucket, 9 and a half weeks old in week 6 of veg, topped early at the 5th set of leaves, LST'd and supercropped like crazy to reduce height, and I've defoliated a little at a time so I don't stress it too much – mostly yellowing leaves, but also lower inner growth that doesn't get enough light. Despite my efforts she's very bushy with more colas than I was expecting. No idea what the strain is, it's bag seed from either NZ bush weed, or a decent medical strain from just before I left Colorado (I brought about 10 seeds home with me.) Soil is organic additive-free potting mix, feeding once a week every other watering with 1/2 strength Nitrosol 8:3:6 and Seasol tonic every other feed or every two weeks. Water pH has been consistently between 6-7 but I only have 1-14 litmus strips and I'm not sure whether a cheap pH pen off eBay is a worthwhile investment compared to something way out of my budget. I don't have a way of measuring PPM/EC/TDS.

If I remember rightly she started to pre-flower in week 4 of veg, but it could have been around the beginning of week 5 because I had a second plant the same age that started to show first, which I diagnosed as male based on crab claw-like ball formations and removed it as soon as I was confident enough about it. My 'girl' has the pointed calyx-looking pre-flowers, so I transplanted into a bigger medium a week and a half ago to give the roots more spread while still vegging and they appear to have done so with healthy white new growth barely poking through the drainage holes on the bottom of the new pot.

I'm a bit worried because it's been pre-flowering for roughly three weeks now and I'm yet to see any pistils. I've also noticed a couple of the bigger pre-flowers have a split up the side and seem to be hollow in the middle, while still retaining their pointed pear-shape. I've Google searched for other people who have experienced this and I can't find anything, it's really frustrating. That would be the main concern of my post. I went to the hydro shop today and bought a bottle of GH FloraNova Bloom so I'm prepared for the next stage, and because it seems to be the best thing available for my circumstances. I just don't want to flip to 12/12 before the pistils show, but I also don't have a definitive answer as to whether or not doing so would speed up the process at this stage of development.

I'm pretty self-conscious with it being my first grow and all, and I've spend a lot of energy every day since about August and the beginning of December and late nights focusing on this (especially since I haven't had any medicine in a month and a half,) so I hope someone doesn't call me a f**kin' idiot because I don't know as much as the next guy on here. I'm just depending on getting something out of this because the amount of money I've put into it probably could have got me a couple of oz's, if I had the connections.

If anyone could please help me from a place of compassion I'd really appreciate it.

I just bought a pH test kit from the pet store that has a range of 6.0-7.6 and tested my tap water. On a scale of yellow to blue it was blue which would indicated my tap water is 7.6 or above and probably causing nutrient lock out and other issues. I'll go buy some bottled spring water and see if that's any better.

I didn't read every thing but ph should be rite on or close or you will def have problems. Every element will affect your grow.

There's no way for me to reply to your message or send one for some reason, but I've read a lot on growweedeasy.com and I've been reading the Jorge Cervates and Greg Green books for over a year. They don't always have the information I'm looking for though.

My bucket is in the basement of my house which is sort of a ground-level workshop that stays cooler than the living area upstairs and gets more fresh air. Temperature stays around 24-26 with humidity typically at 60%, but the lowest it gets is about 55% with the highest being around 70% or so, which is what it's at now because it's been raining a lot the past two days. I have no means of influencing the temperature or humidity other than the weather, where the unit is (stays locked in the basement,) the heat from the bulbs, the intake and exhaust fans, and the moisture in the soil. Read my original post, I put a good hour or so going into as much detail as possible. I'm exceptionally capable of doing a lot of research but I need an experienced opinion. I might know more about this than you do if you're a first timer as well.

I've read that you can get pistils under 24/0 and even the Greg Green book said to wait until they show before flipping. Just not sure what to do.
