First Grow Getting ready to flower.

I beg to differ, any good strain will show pre-sex flowers about 5-7 weeks into veg. That is what all my femmed Kali Mists do at about week 5 or so into veg they show me their sex and then their is no need to sex, just flower when ready and go.

Unless you have an auto-flowering strain, you'll have to wait 2-3 weeks AFTER you switch to 12/12 to sex your plants.

I've used the GH 3 part nutes for years. Very happy with them. Espicially since discovering you only need 2 of them, Flora Micro and Flora Bloom. The green part, Flora Grow, does nothing but suck money out of your wallet. Years later, this becomes famous as the "Lucas Formula." Who knew?

VERY impressive first grow!

Hey Jack,

I would say 80% of my plants are showing signs of sexing. I haven't been posting the pics I've taken because I think they're inconclusive, but I believe a week from now I will be able to sex a lot of my plants. This is my 1st time around so I'm not going to jump to any conclusions.

I just took this picture this morning. I think it might be a female. probably to early to tell though.

What do you think?

It's been a while since I vegged that long but, when I grew outdoors, I'd plant in April/May and never saw a single preflower until September.

I think those leaves look like that cause the plant is hot or needs fresh air. I didn't see a fan in your pics.. I was always told there should be a fan blowing the leaves around. I don't know why they would be to warm with those lights?I could be wrong

Busy weekend ahead.

Busy weekend ahead.

I picked up a bunch of supplies to start building out the flower room.

Before I get started on this I will be flushing the plants after the 2 PM feeding tomorrow. I will flush for 2 watering cycles and then clean the res and start back on nutes.

Back to the build out. I picked up Mylar for the walls, a 6ml plastic topped with mylar for the floor and 2 reflectors.

I pulled the carpet in the room today. Tomorrow I will lay the floor down after I clean up a little and then I will then line the walls with mylar.

I want to mount the lights but had some ?'s about plant spacing. I will be using 3.5 gal pots. My plan was to have the plants 6" off the wall and have about 6" between the pots. I want to figure this out so I can hang my 1st 2 lights and I want them positioned perfectly. I will have 3 rows of 5.

Anyone have some different thoughts. Please let me know.

Even with the leaf issue I'm havng right now the plants are growing like crazy. The tallest are now 14.5" tall and Sunday will be 1 month in Veg.

I might have a little problem though. I just received the float switches needed for my controller bucket. (Krypto's Ebb & Flow bucket system) The ass holes sent me a micro version of the float switch and the specs aren't the same. :bashhead: :cuss: Of course they arrived this afternoon after they closed on the east coast. I sent them an email but I'm sure I won't hear from them till this weekend. Hopefully they'll be able to get them to me by Thursday so I can crank the system up next weekend.

Off to sleep and up early slaving in the room.

One other note definetly identified at least 4 females this evening :muahaha:

Peace All.

Poodo is right, your plants are too hot. Get some air circulation in there and the problem should go away. It's best to use a oscillating fan that goes across your plants, this will also strengthen them up. What's your temps when lights on at the canopy?

I didn't think temp was the problem because my temp's were reading 70 -73, but the temp guage was hanging on the side of the tray and was now fully shaded by the leaves. I held it right under the the lights at plant level and it quickly went up to 85. I now have the temp gauge hanging above the plants and it seems to be steady around 84. I have a small fan which I turned back on and I closed the heat vent in the room. I had opened the heat vent because the temp readings were so low. Let's see what happens now.

Thanks for the feedback. KB

2-3-08 Starting week 5

It's been a long hard weekend. Got the mylar, floor covering and 1st 2 lights up. I need to go out of town on business but when I return on Thursday I need to work around the clock to get the room completed by Sunday.

I cleaned the res this morning and ran a fresh water flush before I added nutes. The lights were adjusted to a 18/6 cycle and watering 3 times a day. The plants are growing a lot faster than expected. they are now 16-18" tall and growing at a rate of 1" a day now. They will probably be 22-24" by the time I move to flower on Sunday. I would like to get the room done on Saturday, buts that's really ambitious.

basic stats

Room temp 79
Humidity 50
Water Temp 67
PH 5.61
PPM 1108

Here's some photos of the plants and work done.

It's Flower Time

It's Flower Time

Well I've been working like a madman for the last 2 days and I'm almost ready to start the transition. I wired in the 220 circuit to my electrical panel and will finish the wiring for electrical when I finish transplanting because the home for electrical is right above my veg station.

The Ebb & Flow bucket station is done. The controller was tested all afternoon yesterday and operated flawlessly. I was going to build Kryptos system and stumbled onto this web site.

http://www.aquahub.com/store/product39.html

Everything is pretty much the same with an extra overflow backup float switch. It uses 2 seperate timers for flood and drain and seperate extension cords to power the system. The design is solid and not quite as clean as Kryptos, but you order 1 package and receive all your core components. I would have done Kryptos system but the suppliers kept sending the wrong parts or didn't send at all.

Total cost for controller.

Ebb & Flow Kit $79.99
2 Timers $35.00
1 256 GPH pumps $17.50
2 Extension cords $ 9.00
1 5 Gallon Bucket $ 5.50
Fittings $ 5.50
Total $152.49

The biggest problem I will have is my plants have grown too tall in Veg. I just couldn't get the room completed in time. The plants are 21 - 24 inches tall. Not what I wanted for my 1st grow. I will probably have to drop down to 16 total buckets from the 30 planned. 4 rows of 4. Skunk #1 big yeilder.

Hopefully I can get the room running today if not tomorrow.

I'll try to update later with the progress. :muahaha:

Finally some time to post! 9 days into 12-12

Finally some time to post! 9 days into 12-12

My last post I was finishing my buildout of the flower room. Well I ran into lots of issues. The build out wasn't a problem it was more life, work and unexpected visitors.

I finished the build out in 2 days like I expected and while I was transplating my plants a family member came to town unexpectedly. I couldn't have plants all around my house so I had to choose 15 plants to transplant and trash the rest. What's the chances of thoose 15 plants all being female. Well attack of the males came and I now have 7 beautifull females budding away.

Newbie mistake I grew my plants too tall in veg and the 2 600 watters would never sufice for 15 large plants. The plants were 22 - 26 inches tall when they went into flower. I will probably have to drop my future expectations down to 2 staggarded grows of 8 or 10 plants.

Due to my visitor I had limited time to finish my transplant and start up. My plants went 48 hours without watering or grow lights. When I finally got rid of my guest The plants were drooping and in bad shape. I quickly got them all transplanted and kicked the lights on. I ran them in veg for 3 days and they came back well. They officially started bloom on Feb 18th.

I had to leave on a business trip just after switching to 12-12. God bless my wife who dealt with the PH adjusting and 1st res change on her own with no experience. What a trooper.

I finally had some time to take pics on Feb 27th 9 day's into bloom. I just terminated the 8 males we found.

12 days in 12-12

12 days in 12-12

Well the plants are stretching 1 - 1 1/2 inches a day. They are now 38" to 41" tall. The buds are really starting to take shape.

I should be running CO2 already but the C.A.P. PPM3 was defective and it was the last 1 the hydro shop had. C.A.P. is sending them a replacement but I'm leaving on another business trip Monday and returning on Thursday. So I will start CO2 on Thursday.

The 7 plants are drinking about 3 gallons of water a day. That surprised me a little. My only concerns about my setup right now is the Ebb & Flow bucket system. There's about 2.5" of water sitting in the bottom of the bucket. I guess my plants don't have a problem with it. The plants are being watered 4 times a day 3 times during 12-12 and once with lights off.

Here's a breakdown on my nutes I'm using:

GH Grow, Micro & Bloom
Botanicare Cal Mag
Botanicare Liquid Karma
AN Carbo load
AN Big Bud
H2O2

I use AN Barricade as PH up only.

I used H&G Roots Excelurator the 1st 2 weeks of 12-12.

I'm pretty much following recommended feeding schedules and using 1.5 Ml per gal of H2O2.

I'm mixing nutes for 35 gallons and they are a little hot at 1375 PPM so I add water to drop to 1250 PPM.

I have had no issues with tip burn or plant problems in 12-12 all plants are really healthy. Light are running from 8PM - 8AM.

Here's some photos from 12 days

The only minor problem I noticed for the 1st time last night was the edges of some leaves, maybe 10% are turning up and in. Here's a picture of the worst one.

did you figure out whether it was a mag def. or airflow problem? my plant looks the same way and the temps are 65 - 70 in the room so i dont think it could be heat issue either.
