First off congrats on your first grow. There is nothing better than growing your own quality smoke. How has it gone so far? Any troubles? Sounds like you have a decent start going. The only advice I can give without more info is take your time. Get a cheap scope to know when they are finished and remember to enjoy yourself. For me it has been a constant learning experience and very rewarding.Brings me great peace. Keep an open mind and remember what works and doesn't.You can read everything out there but you need to just do it to get the hang of it.

Thanks for the kind words of wisdom bro.
had a few problems at first until i realised my PH meter was fooked but they soon perked up when the PH was sorted.
Did you look at the pics ? I was wondering if I should trim/tie back or just let nature take its course.
I will post more pics next week...........cheers,

No problem. They look nice to me. I am sure some light pruning would not hurt but if you think you can get a little more penetration by doing so then go for it. It is still early enough to do it I believe. I did check the pics. Hydro is treating you well it seems. What kind of ph meter did you have? I bought 3 of these cheaper digital ones off of ebay and they would not settle on a ph. If I let it sit in the fluid it would just keep going up or down and if I moved it at all the numbers would start moving again. I now use the aquarium type tester that you put drops in and check the color. Seems to be accurate enough and very quick.

You seem a lot better off than most first time growers. Shit my first grow was in my closet with a stolen flood light hiding it from my mom when I was like 16 lol. But I'd consider the run im on now as being my first real grow. Good luck with your mornin glories mark, hope they yield big for you.

I think i bought the same as you on Ebay first time but this is the new PH meter i bought and it works great......according to my ladies !

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=370140530844&ssPageName=STRK:MERFB:IID

When I trim some of the fan leaves off i read somewhere on this site to cut them off about an inch from the main stem do you (or anyone else) have any advice on this ?

cheers:joint:

I have actually not read up on this and I am taking what I know from an arborist who works on trees. The old way of pruning was cutting flush with the main trunk. The new way is to leave some of the branch. I don't remember why they did it. You can google it as I am too lazy at this point. There were some good reasons though. That is the way I do it. Like graffiti said you are doing better than most first time growers. You are doing better than me and I have 20+ grows under my belt. I use soil and less light though too. Switching to hydro soon. Need a good tds or ec meter. Was the old meter you got beige with a brown cap? I just could not get the ph to settle enough to make me feel comfortable and I was always wondering if it was right. Did you have the same issues with it as me or did you just find it to be off. How quickly do you get a stable reading with the new meter?

The new PH meter came ready callibrated and works perfect (according to my girls).
Whn I decided to start growing my own and reading up on it i thought i knew it all !
It goes without saying I didnt LOL but the first lesson I have learned is that PH is important in hydro and I read somewhere on this site that a good PH meter is a must have or everything else goes to fook !
I had N deficiency for a while and thats when I found out the PH meter (which was the same as yours LOL) was fecked !
New reliable Ph meter-----PH in rez sorted-------nute block out sorted=====HAPPY LADIES !
cheers

Does the new meter have a replaceable probe? I would imagine that it would need to be calibrated once in awhile, no? How long does it take you to get a reading that is stable? The one I used had a non replaceable bulb that would dry out so you had to soak it for a couple minutes before using it and then depending on the solution it would take a long time as in 5-10 minutes to stabalize if it even did.

My new one has a non replaceable bulb so your last post got me thinking about it drying out. Maybe i should wait longer when taking a PH test ! I'll try and let you know the results
It settles down after about 30 secs but it has 2 digits after the decimal point and the second number always jumps 2 or 3 but i dont think that matters as long as its in range.
I'm going to give them a trim tomorrow so i'll be posting some before and after pics.
Thanks forthe kind words graffiti and the advice CLDBD.........:yeahthats

Decided to come back to this thread as my trimming problems are over and wanted to share the rest of my first ever grow with anyone interested.

I am using a wilma drip hydroponic system and on day 21 I added a 400w hps to the 600w hps i was already using so hopefully that will increase my yield:joint:

They (Barneys farm Morning Glory )were grown from seed and are now 24 days into flower.

ANY ADVICE , TIPS OR COMMENTS WELCOME :yeahthats

I have just read, copied and pasted this from another site (sea of green).....

Your ladies do not measure daylength only darkness.

When your about 2 weeks from harvest increase daylength to 24hrs on/12hrs off .

1.gives you about 15% more yield
2.use up any remaining nutrients in its system (organic growers)
3.improves taste dramatically for non-organic plants

Has anyone heard of this or even tried it ?
