First Grow (Cotton Candy x Heavy Duty Fruity)

Hi guys I've been reading these forums for a while and I just set up my first grow on March 28th. I'm currently living with family (for 4 more months) and decided to start a small little experimental grow for practice. Due to size restrictions I initiated the 12/12 lighting about 4 days ago(April 18th). I have 3 going in soil under individual red spectrum fluorescent bulbs. I got these seeds at hempdepot.ca though they are no longer for sale there. They are by "Canadian Seeds". I have taken lots of pics since germination and will upload some tonite/tommorow depending on when I find my cable for my camera. Oh yes, and I also started a third plant a week or so later that is quickly catching up.

PS happy 422 :joint:

heres the small one which I have in a computer case

theres the main three (I call them the triplets)

there they are at a younger age

<deleted for security reasons>

the more recent of the three (as well as the one of the smaller one) are atleast a week old so they've all grown since. I'll post more recent ones later. Please post any tips or advice if you notice anything about my plants at any time. I have not yet used any fertilizer and don't currently plan to (keeping it organic) Is this incredibly unwise? -Peace

Hey Tommy(eisendwat), looks like your gonna be the only one following this grow. Here are some pictures I took this afternoon. The three triplets have been in 12/12 light for about five days now. Anyone know when I should start to be able to determine gender?

Hey BOW, nice to see that your starting your own little grow. I just wanted to ask some quick questions about your setup.
How many cfl's do you have and what wattages are they?

What size space are your growing in, all three in the server case??

Do you have venthilation in there if not you should devise a system to keep it nice and cool.

What you want to look for are preflowers that come out at the nodes. If it is a female theses tiny preflowers will show two small white hairs coming out of them. If they do not show any hairs and begin to grow balls that stack on eachother then they are males. If that doesnt make sense im sure i could go and find you a diagram to look at lickity split.

Oh yea and if your living at home or with family still your definitly going to want to have some sort of odor control cause soon your whole room is gonna reek like dank. I grew at home in my parents house during highschool and smell is definitly whats going to give you away. so work on that. if you got any questions holler at me. Ill be watching.

Oh yea i ment to also say that you can definitly fert and stay organic, there are tons of organic ferts out there, try earthjuice, thats what i use, its not super pricy and definitly does the trick!! also you could try guano or your own compost for fertilzer! Good luck and keep it organic!

Thanks for the tips NorthernKronic. I'm going to drive into town either today or tommorow and look for some fertilizer. As for the plants they are in the cabinet to the left of the computer case that is pictured on my first post each plant has a 25W red spectrum fluorescent bulb. Except the one in the computer case which is still under plant growth fluorescents I have; that are only 15W.

Thanks for the tips on flowering I think I notice those 2 small white hairs forming on atleast 2 of the 3! In a week or so I will replace a male (if there is one) with the one in the computer case as it is growing very quickly (I picked up on a few things to do better after the first 3). About temperature I have a thermometre inside with them and as I'm using only low wattage fluorescents there is not too much heat to worry about. Also I don't have that much of a problem with smell as I can toke freely in my room and I so far have found with the odor of fresh smoked pot and my 3 windows open that there is no noticable odor to speak of.

PS I keep my door locked :pimp3:

Strain info found

Strain info found

Thank's black ra1n. Well I just got the link from the guy at hempdepot.ca for the strain I've been growing and thought I'd post the info and pics! The earlier information that I titled this forum based on appears to be wrong. It's not Cotton Candy mixed with the HDF it's Afgani Haze, well I'll just post the info.

Ru-Pa

Big and fruity. Deceivingly strong with hidden delights. An excellent match, a stabelized Haze Afghani seedline that has been hybridized, and crossed with Heavy Duty Fruity. Two monsters meet, so expect some great yields with this hybrid. The Haze Afghani hybrid female that was used, is a more recent selection that is currently being circulated between growers here. This hybrid has a lighter smell and taste from what we are used to seeing locally. The HDF father was a hulk of a thing, with very closely placed internodes and a strong smell. The HDF should some what reduce the Haze Afghani hybrids stretch during flowering. Giving this the extra 7 to 10 days to finish, and you will be rewarded with some of the sweetest buds.
Flowering time indoors 56 to 63 days.

and here are some pics from the website of the strain for the first half of flowering.

another at 4weeks

Quick question, anybody know if fruit flies are bad for plants? Every once in a while one finds its way into my cabinet (at which point I kill it just incase).

UPDATE with pics

UPDATE with pics

Well some how I lucked out and all 3 of the triplets ended up being female (bringing more validity to their name). I took so long to update because I was waiting for the shortest of the three to show its gender clearly enough to be certain. It'll probably be another week before I know about the one I used to have in the PC case. I had to move it to under the sink in my bathroom because it had gotten far too big for it's case.(It is by far the widest of the four despite it's younger age). One of the three which I have placed closest to the camera in these pictures showed pistols(those white hairs) about a week before the other two and it now has by far the most developed (well over 50 now). Anyway here are some pics. I know it's hard to see them I was having trouble zooming in with clarity :badday:

They look female alright. The other pics you posted look very well developed for 4 weeks, I would question the date, but it is possible. You may want to do something about the height of those girls, it will far outgrow your cabinet. They look super nice though, good work, and gl with your grow

Cloning

Cloning

Thanks Dr. Dog, you're definitely right about that cabinet. I had to raise the lighting to its full capacity and my tallest of the three is only on 3 cd cases right now. I plan to move that one and the one I keep at the back in there to my bathroom when necessary as it is farther away from the rest of my house (it's off of my room) and will also help with smell. Hopefully the smallest of the three will be fine in there. Those pictures I posted appear to be far more developed in comparison to mine. The 2 week photos look about a week and a half ahead of my plants which are at about 2-2.5 weeks into 12/12 already. Yesterday a friend of mine came over and we took four cuttings from my smallest plant (which had the nicest shoots of the three). I gave him three of them and kept the best one for myself. Here is a picture of the clone and also a picture of the plant I used to have in the PC case which is now in my bathroom.

All we did was cut the shoots off at a 45 degree angle. Wash the end, dip it in a rooting hormone and then put it in a very moist pot. I now have it under light but not very close to it at all and covered with a clear plastic cover. Is there something else that I should do? Any advice is appreciated as always.

May 21st Photos

May 21st Photos

Here's some pictures from May 21st sorry if they are blurry. They've got lots of nice crystals showing up but I doubt you can see them in the pictures. I'm gonna borrow a friends camera to take clearer pictures later on. Also don't be fooled by my shitty camera's date stamp. The date these were taken was yesterday.

the tallest one(started late in pc case) showing female off lower shoots already

the tallest one side by side with my favourite of the triplets

The small one that I cloned earlier

And the third triplet I used to call it the mutant because of strange leaf formations earlier on but It grew out of that phase quickly.

I'll post some more pictures when things start getting more interesting

One decent photo!

One decent photo!

Here's a nice photo a friend took for me with his camera. If you save it then zoom in on it you can see lots of crystals! It's a real high quality photo so you can actually zoom in and still see clearly! Thanks Mp-Frenzi for the photo

Triploid?

Triploid?

Hi guys, I'm posting again so soon because I noticed something just now. I had been reading a few topics about what I believe is referred to as a "triploid". From what I understand it's when three leaves grow at each node instead of 2. I was astonished after looking at my vegging clone to find that it seemed to have this very thing happening with it. The plant I took the clone from does not have this at all... How could this have happened? Am I misinformed about any of this? Here are some pictures though it is not as easy to tell form the pictures what is easy to see by looking at the plant in real life.

Any knowledge or advice would be much appreciated.

Hey this thread is a bit of an inspiration to me. Ive been looking for some cheap and dirty (successful) cfl grows that i might give a shot when i move out. Just out of curiosity what kind of soil are you using?

Thanks Zeus and Bob. Yes Bob, this thread definitely highlights the potential of a cheap and easy grow op. I am a lazy bastard who lives in the country and I did everything in my power to refrain from even having to drive 10-15 minutes into town to buy supplies. The soil I used was an organic potting soil mix by Hortibec called "Premium Nature Mix". It contains peat moss, humus, compost and perlite. I found it at a Canadian Tire for about 2-3 dollars a bag. When I move out in August I will start a new thread and then begins the real growing adventure. I plan to start with one 400w HID for flowering and use cfls temporarily for the vegging state.
