first grow bagseed bad smoke, advice wanted

hey all, newbie had great luck with first grow, until harvest...

134W CFL soil microgrow unknown bagseed everything went surprisingly great for a beginner i think, but after harvest with proper flushing curing etc it just smell like hay, nasty harsh CRAP smoke like stems, no high at all, wtf??? does bagseed from decent bud sometimes make useless plants? luck of the draw i guess.

lights, temps, nutes and all normal as best i could tell after much research here, my thanks to all who shared expertise enabling newbie a safe successful start. alot of work went into that little cab, owell the experience maybe valuable someday with known genetics

you got any shots of the harvest? do you know what type of plant you grew....was it more indica or sativa? how long did you let it go for? can you elaborate on the lighting used and feeding? How long did the plant flower for?

also, the smell of hay indicates to me its not completely dried and if it is dried it is most definately not been put through a cure at all...as far as harshness you can look at a water cure and not getting you high, well....I've always gotten stoned off of a harvest, even the premature cuts and weight yielding ones.....hope you can turn things your way.

I grew bagseed my first 2 grows and one of the strains was very mediocre. It kind of sucked. The other was awesome. It was very Indica dominant with dense chunky nugs. They had a skunky lemon smell to them and a lemony piney sour taste. I still got a few beans left. Maybe one day I'll grow somemore, but now I got real genetics and I got to work with them first. For bagseed it was really good. I also have a mix of about 50 seeds from various sacks I bought. Whenever I bought a sack and it had a few seeds in it I would save them if the bud was to my likings. I knew it would be better when you grow it.

heya bluebublelove and Closet Funk, thank you for jumping in here  sorry no pics, anyway she had extremely short internodes with about average to sativa looking leaves, growing into a nice compact bush under LST, fitting quite comfortably in the tiny 14" x 8" x 25" speaker box. just some bagseed of unknown strain. started with 4 plants, 3 were males. vegged with 2 25W 6500k CFL's, then added 2 42W 3000k for flowering. final transplant was about equal parts regular potting soil, humus and mushroom compost, with bone meal and lime, then fed some Schultz Bloom Plus later in flower. buds turned out fat and dense with plenty of trichomes, thought i was in for some great smoke but when trichs stubbornly refused to ever go cloudy i knew something was wrong. also she had amazingly low odor, just a faint spicy pine or lemon like scent, smelling more like cat pee later on.

began sampling buds around 8 weeks' flower, figuring she'd be ready soon, but yech no high at all just nauseating. after a rediculous 14 weeks :yoinks: of flower and trichs still all clear and pistils nearly all brown, plant obviously ending its life, i went ahead and chopped. dried whole plant in a large paper bag with silica gel sachet in, stems are brittle now so putting nugs in a jar to see what a few weeks will do for them, but this stuff is seriously nasty, i really don't think it has any THC at all. sample buds from weeks ago sealed air-tight show no improvement, same hay like smell and unpleasant smoke.

aw man is this some freak mutation phenotype or what? of course i didn't expect much from bagseed, but assumed it would at least smell like weed and get me somewhat high. owell trying not to be too bummed about it, thinking to go again someday with quality beans and maybe HPS. at least now i know how easy it is to grow :canabis:

Hey man just take it one day at a time. I remember when I first started out (not that long ago). All I had was bagseeds to grow. I finally scooped up a 250 watt HPS and grew some. Two grows later I finally ordered some genetics. Now I got nearly 30 strains and still collecting. I went from having nothing to having some very fine genetics. The funny thing is I've only grown a few quality genetics out of my stash and only got to flower out two. I'm so ready to get started on my collection. Unfortunatly I can't really grow indoors right now because of my living situation. When I get my own place (in a few months) it's on. Although I am growing some autoflower plants outside soon for a end of the summer harvest.

 EVERYBODY get your :lurk: out

I am gonna tell ya a story about a grower ... a grower that started with humble begginings in the dirt using just bagseeds , sun and water .....

for many years this grower used only the bagseed he found and the natural things available .. he had good and bad results .... a few times he got sprouts that died ... once he got all hermies .. had no clue as to why ...
Many times he got great looking bud with no seeds that smoked like crap and once or twice he had some killer stuff although not much
his techniques didn't improve much in the first few years but his nuturing for the plants and patience with them paid off
he was happy
He learnt from local growers and things started to pick up he got better results slowly but surely then people started to ask if he could help them with their grows ... he was honoured ... and this taught him more
His passion for this plant became awesome... he had to know EVERYTHING about it
then he discorvered the internet ... he bought a light some hydro equipment and some nutrients ...

And One Killer Grow Fourm
Erm whats its name again???? lol
Anyway he went on to gain much more experience from all the knowledge he could find and the help people gave him
Now he smokes killer bud whenever he wants ... and sometimes he just cant keep the smile off his face

whats that guys name again I had it somewhere ...... :chin:

Peace :joint:

nice story D9,
it's amazing how much you learn from every grow! i sometimes look back on older grow pics of mine and see things that they needed that i never knew at the time.

when people say they let the plant tell them what they need, i can relate now.

i hope i never stop learning about our beautiful plant, and one day would love to be able to give the plant %100 of everything it needs! (8 weeks of perfection) then i'll smoke her : )

Do you let air in the jar everyday or are you just leaving it air tight? I am pretty sure sure you are supposed to let fresh air in everyday.

aired for a few minutes every day at first, then about twice weekly later on. never any condensation or signs of mold. still no improvement; i'm about convinced its just something weird about that particular plant. hoping for better luck this new grow.

Now that you've got the basics of growing down its time to move on to better genetics.I also grew bagseed my first few grows and I ended with a bunch of crap, genetics is just as important as knowledge in my opinion, you just cant grow good erb if its not in the genes

Very true Skeletor ...

Bagseeds ... hardly ever turn into the plant they where from ... i cant be bothered to do the maths but i know why he he he

And often produce quite poor results

Good Genetics arent that expensive either ... i know people who stuck to Nirvana seeds .... they're Cheaper than most and very reliable

Which are available through seedboutique btw

the Afghani is good also the big bud ....

If not invest in something a little more expensive (not always better)
It'll pay you back ... In the end ! lol

luck of the draw
I've done 2 bagseed grows
both were killer plants
still got one,
a 7 weeker, medium yield, earthy taste, mind numbing high
very short plant only 50% stretch in flower
I named it Phit

sometimes bagseed is crossed with hemp and you don't know it hemp grows wild so its hard to tell if a plant was crossed with hemp or not so plant looks good but not very potent order seeds from gypsy problem solved

Thanks for the thread, Ballast. Your next grow will be much improved, because you're gettin' in "Tune." One thing i've discovered that's "good" about bagseed is that theres an abundance of it, and its already in the bag. Other than that, they have caused much less than the expected (or hopeful) results. I've been ordering seeds for the past few years and the stability, size, and vigor of the grows has been on the increase ever since.
In no way do I claim to be an expert, and there is always something more I can learn to improve yields, potency, and Karma. K+ *wink*
I recently accepted some beans from a "friend" that said they were good genetics. they hermied in late flower after a stretchy, slim bud site flowering start. Yadda-Yadda-Yadda.....Now i'm looking at buying all new mylar as i cant seem to dispell all of the damn pollen!

Now I'm growin the clones from that hermie infected grow, i can tell that trichrome development is far less than the mothers that i took early due to male flowers showing up. its cureing well, though, so its still a good grow. It was originally some of Dutch Passions indoor Mix from '04 so its definately a headdie salad by now.

Anyway, to me, any bagseed is kind-of a mystery and i dun't like suprises in the garden (unless they're good ones)! I like the predictability of Good genetics much better than i like the convenience of bagseed.
Peace.

And yeah, Nice story Delta9. haha! das one of my favorite kinda stories! Haha!

High ballast! Ive noticed all of which has been mentioned here. My original F1 seeds practically grew themselvs, very strong and potent. I seeded a few buds for later grows. Got a ton of seeds but never got the same results as the first batch. I now have one plant that wont even crystal. after over a year of growing with the original 10 seeds and clones and stuff, I feel ive gotten all the milege I am gonna' get. So I ordered several sets from SB. Cant wait till they get here:) :yoinks: Peace, TBug
