FIrst Grow, 7 day old seedling help, pics

Blue, how would we go about re-potting these babies, because we put them in bigger pots a while back and there wouldnt be enough root structure to hold all the soil from the pot together, so we would risk damaging the root structure quite a bit. Any help will be appreciated!

LBG, I'd do it this way:

Repot when your soil is dry, that way when you ease the plant out of the pot the loose soil will simply fall away without the weight of water-logged soil pulling on the roots.

- Fill your new pot with the desired amount of soil. Your pot should not be much larger than the old pot if your root mass is not fully developed.

-Run a flat bread knife flush around the side of the pot where the plant is to loosen the root ball.

-Place your hand over the top of the pot against the dirt, with the seedling poking out between your index and middle finger.

- Make sure you have newspaper under you. Turn the pot over so its upside down and your hand is supporting plant and dirt. If the soil doesn't just slide out, then gently squeeze the sides of the pot in order to loosen it and you'll feel it slide into your hand.

- Ease the pot away from the root ball (the loose soil will simply fall away at this point) and holding the soil/root mass upside down still with the seedling poking out from between your fingers. It'd be best to get rid of as much soil as possible, to do this you can gently run your fingers over the sides of the soil/root mass to remove the outside layers of soil.

- Place a couple of fingers of your other hand on the top of the root mass/soil to hold it together, bring your hand over the new pot, and quickly flip the plant/soil right side up and ease it into the center of your new pot. Add soil around the sides, giver her a good watering and you're done.

Very easy on the plant and the roots. If done correctly your plants won't even droop after repotting. I'm sure you'll do fine, there's no tricks to it really, just common sense and a gentle touch

Im very stoned here, so please forgive me if this has already been asked and ive missed it, but what is the ph of your water run off?

Thanks for all the help  I think we did what we had to do (been a bit scared of killing the first plants of any nature that I have ever tried to grow), so we used the technique described above by Bluevelvet. The state of our seedlings were getting worse with the yellow spots so we needed to do something

So last night we re potted our babys into a medium with much less soil and more perlite/vermiculite and no bonemeal. Upon brushing away the soil around the roots we discovoured that the seedlings did not need to be transplanted the first time so early. They still havent hardly grown out of the 100% MG soil mix we started them off in which seems to have serverly stunted the growth of the roots. It had very little drainage and was definatly the sole cause of the problem. AS with the 2 biggest plants which had the taroot curling round the bottom of the first pots we used, which we decided to brush the old soil off of the sides before we transplanted. These are the ones that have no sign of burn at all and thair roots have managed to find the MG/perlite/vermiculite soil mix we used to fill the larger pots with which had much better drainage and allowed much more air to get to it.
All of the plants are re potted now into smaller pots with a new less intense medium and seem to be growing happily now 12 hours later with no new sign of burn.
I really hope the problem is sorted out now, we will update in the next day or so with pics to let you all know how there coming along. :canabis:
Thanks for all the help girls and guys especially Blue you have really helped us out here  so hopefully soon well be able to give you some pis of some nice big plants :friends:

lol, yeah pic number 2 had some kind of damage tha was much different from the rest of them. Sadly it died about a week ago from it
I think this seedling was also a bit of a mutant, with weird shaped leaves and holes down the middle of each set which diddent help it much...

no bonemeal
My 2 cents - if these babys were in a soil that had bone-meal or blood meal mixed in = IMHO that is where your probs came from;

Babys have natural go-juices & can not take a rich mix & will burn up quick - no adds to the soil for at least two weeks then you can go to a mix of;
1 cup bone meal
1 cup Blood meal
per cubic ft of soil /

Find & use a good 'seedling' soil mix at your local garden center & don't add anything except perilite

If you flush MAKE sure you use luke warm water that has a good pH (R.Ooss filtered) - U must keep your pH below 7 & needs to be 6.3-5 - when-if you use nutrients go 1/2 strength at first

Many blessings on the rest of this grow

ps. if these don't work out right = we will try again with an easer first grow strain & go Step by step / XBlue is an wonderfull grower (bet she is cute 2  ) - keep her close by

thanks for the nice words Fredster and LBG.

Glad to hear everything went OK LBG, next transplant will hopefully only be necessary when the babies have filled the pot with the roots. I'm sure your plants will be looking and feeling much happier very soon. And just think at how much you've already learned over such a brief period of time! Great job!

Hey all, Just a quick update
Did a bit of shopping recently and brought some things we think will help us along the way to getting some nice healthy plants growing and helping out the ones were nurturing back to health at the moment. We brought some Epsom Salts, 10L of perlite, 10L of Ericaceous soil and an incubator for seedlings and germination in future to stop the overwatering, drying out problems with stable humidity. The perlite was to balance out our soil mix after adding the Ericaceous soil to balance out the ph of our currant soil and im guessing all of you know what epsom salts are for
Well the problems of the yellow spots started to get much worse on the plants that were effected, as you can see earlier in the thread, but after a new soil mix was added with better drainage and no nutes the plants seem to be getting better and each new set of leaves it grows are lookin good  Still quite stunted tho, lets hope they sort themselves out properly and catch up! :whip:

Here are our healthy plants on 20 days so far, looking very bushy  :

Just started this one and the one below on Miricle Grow Ericaceous plant food on its first feeding thismorning. They are actually in much bigger pots than the plants in the rest of the photos as they were not effected by the burn :canabis:

Also have 5 Shiva seedlings roasting away happily in the incubator that kept them under the light but did not dry out the soil, keeping them humid and moist . They pooped up out of the soil in about 24 hours in the new soil mix. We will be posting pics up of these once they have something to show :biglaugh:
Thanks for all of your imputs, a lot of you on here have really helped us out on our first grow, we are learning so much!

LBG, its probable that those nute burned babies will lose those leaves that have yellowed. Keep an eye on the new growth, if its nice and green and healthy looking don't worry about the damaged leaves falling off  I think you changed the soil for those babies in the nick of time. They may exhibit slow growth for another week or two, but once the roots have fully grown into the new unferted soil they should take off! If I were you I'd veg them an extra two weeks than what you would normally veg them ,give them time to recover and do some serious growing before flipping them 12/12. Happy growing and you will do just fine.

Will do Blue thanks  We are have 5 new 1 day old shiva seedlings and will soon have 10 Jack herer seeds germing and should pop in a few days. So these plants will be 3 weeks behind the newley popped seedlings, which we plan to veg with our current plants and put them in 12/12 at the same time. So it should all work out in a couple of monthes.
Wish us luck

Will give another update on the pants (edit:plants lol) soon

Love is a beautiful thing in life you know. LBG you are a very fast learner and telling by your pics you have learned to take the tips in this thread to heart and the results only prove that. GOOD JOB. It is now very obvious that the grow bug has given you a little nibble in the bum so hang on this is one of the most relaxing hobbies I have ever know. Having a Mentor like Blue will have a very lasting effect on your skills and also recieving tips from some of the best who like us love to share the love when it comes to good ole home grown. But hell you gotta grow it somewhere. Your plants are like children, no matter how good they are they will get into trouble at times just like kids it's part of learning. So it is up to you as a good parent to decide when to help and when to let them learn on their own. The genes in those little green plants are millions of years old, that is a lot of time to learn how to do something. I'm guessing you are lucky enough to be a female? If this is the case you are already on leg up on us men by having that built in mommy radar that tells you when there is a problem as the fine Lady growers have proven over and over again on these pages. Your kids look 10 times better, keep up the good work. I predict by June your gonna be posting some fine pics of your girls all grown up and lookin fine but as all good mom's do keep the boys away their trouble.

Thanks mrwags how very nice of you to say
Your more right that you know though, we have been bitten by the grow bug. There is nothing I can do about it now, watching those plants grow and gradually form day by day is what its all about. MAkes me feel very in touch with nature, nothing like any other poper drugs there are around, no one would stand a hope in hell of getting that feeling. Im always thinkin about what Im planning to grow next and all of the beautiful strains and varietys of cannabis there is to grow. It really is a very unique looking beautifull weed
I will post new pics of the babys tomorrow to let u all have a glimpse of how there doing.
Have a good weekend

Day 24

Day 24

well im back for another update :joint:

The plants are doing well, and are starting to recover from that crippling burn since we repotted them!
First, heres our runt (the one that got the leaf pulled off  ) It seems to have been very badly affected by this burn, as it wasnt very big anyway, but it has new growth and hasnt croaked yet, so im not giving up on it no matter how behind it is  .

This one got very badly burned, and is just starting to recover from it now that we have repotted it, the new leaves are looking nice and healthy and green, without the burn  so it may fully recover yet! Its also just starting to get its internodal growth, so im hoping this will help it photosynthesise more and grow lots

These two didnt get burned hardly at all, only the first couple of sets, so they are really starting to take off in the new soil, they both have internodal growth and on one of them its starting to get huge! The tips of the new growth does seem to be burnt though, its just kind of crispy and brown/yellow, i was thinking it may either be heat burn or shock from the transplant? It doesnt seem to be slowing the growth though, their still picking up speed!

This is our healthiest plant, and its getting huge!! The internodal is starting to branch off now, and the leaves on it are getting bigger by the hour it seems! This one also has the strange crispy tips on the ends of the new growth, although the newest tiny leaves in the centre dont seem to be affected. Any ideas on what this could be?

We also have 2 freshly sprouted shiva to add to the grow. one of them only has half a leaf, no other spiky leaves as yet, and only half of one of the cotyldon leaves!

Just germed and popped into soil are 10 nirvana jock horror.
