Firefox and Tor (and FoxyProxy, too?)- Losing my mind!

I am running Firefox and want to surf this site while protecting my privacy as much as possible.

I use Win Vista. I installed Tor and TorButton and us the default settings. I have uninstalled Norton and turned off the Microsoft Firewall. I do not acces the internet via a proxy. When I activate it, I am told I cannot connecte to the internet.

Then, I download FoxyProxy. The Default setting does not allow me to connect to the internetm either.

Then, I went to http://www.textproxylists.com/ and mannually entered about 20 dfifferent IP addresses for a proxy, turned on FoxyProxy so all traffic goes through the proxy and get:

a) The connection timed out, or
b) the proxy is refusing new connection requests.

How the hell am I supposed to used Tor and/or FoxyProxy to access the internet? I even tried installing Privoxy to run with Tor and FoxyProxy, and it had no effect.

HELP!

Tor Browser Package

Tor Browser Package

I would like to suggest a complete turn-key solution that may be easier for many to implement.

This canned package contains both a configured browser (firefox) and IM client (pidgin) as well as the tools, scripts and setup to access the Tor network which passes your internet access around the world thereby hiding your real IP at some loss of performance. Why it is a good choice for basic computer users is that it is easy to use by just running one script to launch it. Also nothing stops you from running another browser at the same time to have speedy access to other mainstream content that is not re-routed.

It is called the Tor Browser Package and is available at: https://www.torproject.org/torbrowser

It is a simple zip file you can uncompress to a folder on your desktop and then enter the folder to click on the "Start Tor Browser.exe" file. Tor then the included firefox and pidgin will be started and you will be shown a verification page showing some far-off IP address when you now appear to be. Then you can surf in IP anonymity from there. That's it.

Please also note that you must still use Common Sense(tm) when on the internet and not give out personal information, clean your images and sanitize your postings.

ICred.

TOR isn't as safe as you may think....if the government controls the nodes at the beginning and end.....your screwed. And your privacy isn't protected because you are using their proxies.....they don't need a warrant to snoop on their own network.

Food for thought
