Fine cigars

Ok, so I am no expert. In fact, not even close. I am over 40 and have smoked, maybe, 2-3 dozen types of cigars in my lifetime. Some pretty good, many ok, and some foul.

My bro returned from a trip out of country and brought back with him some Cuban cigars. I hadn't had one before this, always thought it must just be a lot of hype (states here...). Well, if that is what smoking fine cigars is about sign me up! I am down for some of that. The band was uncerimoniously shoved in my front pocket and subsequently run through the washer. I have no idea what brand it was. All I know is I loved it, especially compared to anything else I have tried. It was a "lancet" style..

Anyway, just thought I would see if there was any real cigar afficionados @ IC. I have never split a skin for purposes of filling with mj. That's not what this is about. This is intended just for the love of the cigar smoke... If ya have any suggestions on what to try (brand wise) next, please let me know!!!

Thanks!

Try Don Pepin Garcia's he is a tobacco blender and has blended for all the great houses. His cigars are as close to a real cuban as you'll find any where.

Very nice, thanks pearl.. A friend gave me an addy for a site called... 1001Cubancigars.. They sell singles, which is cool. I can try one (or a few) and see if I like them before I commit, right? Anyone here know if they are legit??

Being in the states and hearing a lot about fakes makes this a little nerve racking. If anyone knows a trusty online source that be great too. I am not rich by any means, but would love to check out some good ones while still young! ;)

Thanks!

I love buying cuban cigars in cabo. The vendors will place the fake labels on them for you so that you can carry them back through customs.

I used to smoke Padron cigars. I don't think they were anything top of the line, more like "high mids". They were pretty expensive though, so I quit. BTW, I only smoked them for like two weeks, lol.

Fuentes and Ashtons are great.
Smoking cigars is like drinking wine. All sorts of great varieties out there to try sometimes that $10 bottle is better than the $40; sometimes the $6 cigar is better than the $30.
Websites in London and Spain, Cuba's biggest trading partner, will ship to the U.S., not much different than having seeds mailed from Amsterdam.
An awful lot of Cuban cigars are fakes, and an awful lot of real Cuban cigars are lousy. When Castro nationalized the cigar business many growers took of for Nicaragua and Honduras because the soil and climate are similar. They also took Cuban seed with them, so basically you have the same families making the same cigars, often with higher quality than the real Cuban cigars. Downside to communism is that cigar workers have jobs for life in Cuba, and there's not much in the line of quality control. You can still run across some killer Cubans, but you can also run into duds,

I've used www.puroexpress.com, they are the walmart of habanos. I also use www.cigar-czar.com, more $ than puroexpress, but top notch service. The czar will send the wrapper you may prefer ie. light or darker and won't send a dodgy box. For an excellent cuban bundle cigar I really enjoy Jose La Piedra petit cazadore.

The real cubans get you off smoking them, unreal, but very cool. There is a fine cigar shop in oakbrook, in the land of lincoln, they hand make several varieties, and are always better than anything from the caribe. The one I like is a style made to put an ember from the fire into the end of the ciger, it has extra wrapper to accomodate the hot coal, that is some old school smoking.

De Nobili cigars are the worlds finest.
better known by their street name of
'guinea stinkers' as they were favored
many old country Italians at one time.
the Popular's were my favorite.......

De Nobili cigars are produced in Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA. Originating in 1896, these distinctive, dry-cured cigars are machine-made with a mellow, medium-bodied blend of 100% dark-fire-cured Kentucky and Tennessee tobaccos.

I used to take a cigar in the morning & dip the first inch or so into some sambuca let it dry a few hours and have a tastier smoke later.

as far as fine cigars go I've had the best, true Cubans hand delivered to me by a friend whose husband was in jail in Cuba, every time she'd go to visit him she was allowed to bring back a few boxes (Cohibas & H Upmann by request) of cigars, never got greedy but Joanie always insisted that I take a whole box, of course I always had a $100 bill and another small package as payment for them.

I've been smoking cigars for the last few years and the cigar I always come back to is CAO's MX2. Their LX2 is also good. If you like to chew your cigars, these two won't fall apart or unravel on you. Any Nub offering is pretty damn decent too, especially for $6-7.

Every now and then the little smokeshop by my house gets in some montecristo's .They make a whole a variety of different styles but i like the smaller lighter ones.I always grab a few when i see em.

I am by no means a connoisseur, I smoke maybe 6 cigars a year give or take a few. I usually get some type of arturo fuente. But the best I've had to date was a Romeo y Julieta Churchill from Habana Cuba, and I don't buy into cuban cigar hype, and it's not the first Cuban cigar I've smoked(though the first one that's impressed me). It smoked smooth all the way down to the nub.

Wanting to bump this thread.. I recently found a very nice cigar shop in town. I talked to the owner and shot the shit. I've had a few cigars, mainly the garcia vega ones with the filter and some 9 dollar ones.

Has anyone had a good tasting smooth cigar lately? A buddy of mine suggested trying E.P. Carrillo cigars. Or does anyone have a smoke report on a Cuban?

try a drew estates acid brand.
get the sample tin, some fine cigars.
most cubans are over rated. most the
tobacco growers, makers left cuba.
they also took the seeds with them.
so a good cigar does not need be cuban.
