What's new

Finally, my first grow!

Well, after many, many years of dreaming and fantasizing, I finally have a grow started! I'm super excited. I've got five Apollo 11's from Joey Weed in the ground as of this evening. No pics yet. My camera needs charging and besides, looking at a couple of dirt plots in the ground isn't really that interesting just yet. We'll wait a few days or so and then put some pics up. This grow is going to be 100% organic. I do have a concern, though. It's probably nothing but I just watered them, and it's about to start pouring outside. It might blow over, like almost every other storm around here, but if it doesn't, my baby's will be alright, right?

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask: Anybody have any idea on yield and flowering time? I'm figuring that they'll start flowering sometime in August and I was just wondering what the flowering time was. I heard A11 was a fast flowering plant.

Welcome aboard, hope you have fun with your grow. Not sure what you are looking for pertaining to flower time and yield. If you have just planted them you should wait until they are growing before you get an idea or make plans. But I would plan for an 8 week flowering period, so that will put you sometime into October, will you get frost by then?

Yeah, I just planted them. I'm not planning on going anywhere for a long period of time, and I was hoping they'd have about a month to veg. I guess I won't know the yield until I harvest, huh? Oh, and I won't be getting any frost until November. Later October at the earliest, and even then it's not really frosty. I'm in southeastern AZ, and we don't even get cold temps until the second or third week of November. I was basically asking what other people's experience with this strain are based on their flowering time and yield. But thanks for checkin' in. I appreciate it.

yea its hard 2 say ...it also depends on know how and such....but once you get 2 know the cycle of the cannabis plant it will be easyer on you 2 estimate .a little.....i think i've read apollo 11 woz a early strain around 7-8 weeks if i remember correct.

ohw and 1 advise for you i'd like 2 pass on ....'keep it simple' ....and you will have less worries.Good luck man...

n00b- thanks for checkin' in. I was thinking of that, actually. I didn't want to risk them getting eaten alive, but I've got an idea to prevent that. Maybe I'll try transplanting next time, you know, after I get my feet wet.

core- Yeah, that's why I decided to go with Apollo 11 because I'd heard of it's short flowering time. Oh, and no worries about me not keeping it simple. I'm too broke to afford to complicate anythying, so I'm good there! Well, I'm off to work (ugh). Later.

Still nothin' popping out of the ground. It's been a few days...should I be worried? I planted the seeds with about a quarter inch of taproot sticking out, so I kinda figured they'd at least be tiny little seedlings by now. :puppydoge

I stuck my finger in the soil up until halfway between my first and second knuckle and planted the seeds. I'll give it a few more days. I sure hope to see some green soon.

Okay, I got a new question for you guys. How often should I be watering these seeds? I think overwatering may be the culprit for them not breaking ground yet. Or maybe I'm just paranoid. See, I've been watering them every evening. I know I shouldn't be watering them that often, but it's been over 100 degrees every day for the past week and the soil is pretty damn dry. I've got perlite in there which is supposed to retain water, right? Am I overwatering? Somebody, please help!

always keep the surface moist if you plant seeds (spray surface alot with that temp!!!).....and i wont water'm every evening...every second or 3th day a ml or 20 ...should be sufficiant...
feel the container in weight if its dry ....and then water it ...and feel the weight again after adding water...after few time you can say tru weight and observation when 2 water.....

Well I did mist them tonight with an old spray bottle I had to clean out, but unfortunately I don't have them in containers. I planted straight into the ground. Not with the local soil, though. I got some Expert's Organic Choice and Nature's Way Organic Compost and some organic bone/blood meal mixed in, too. Oh, and also some perlite for water retention because like I said earlier, it's freakin' hot down here! I hope to see some little sprouts soon. I'm starting to get discouraged a little bit. But I won't give up, though.

Still no seedlings. It's kinda bugging me...alot. I almost wanted to dig one up a little just to see if the seed's taproot was even still alive. I dunno what to do. I'm going to give them another 3 days, though. If I don't see anything on Sunday, I'm starting all over again. This time, I won't plant straight into the ground. I'll put 'em in plastic cups for a week or two then transplant.

yep now i should be getting worried.....scratch the surface verry carefully ....if you dont see a head pop up ..you're in bad luck i think..

I was also thinking, maybe I didn't let the root get long enough before I planted them? I've been seeing everybody's pictures on here of their seeds, and the taproots are huge compared to what mine were. Maybe that's why it's taking so long? I'm still gonna dig a bit and check on them. Rest assured that won't happen again, if that's the problem. So if I do find signs of life, what should I do? Just re-bury them and wait till they pop the soil or what?

Son of a bitch! My fear has been confirmed. No seeds, no roots, no plant life at all. And one of the holes had some kinda weird lookin' red larvae in it. I don't know what's up with that, should I try to change the soil or not worry about it? I wish I would've planted in little plastic cups, but that's a lesson learned now. I've got 4 C99's germinating now and I'm going to plant in the cups then transplant outside. I'm going to use the soil that I have in the holes outside because I really don't have any other options. I'm kinda broke right now. Any thoughts?

could be bugs ate your seeds?? :yoinks:....if they sprouted they should come out realy...yea man better sprout them in a cup or something and then transplant when there a little bigger...but if i where you i would treat your soil with some neem oil before you go at it again...it will cull of some of the bugs that are in your soil.....

and if you use outside soil be shure 2 add some perlite or white sand or something for better rootgrowing....

I'm going to suggest that planting them in a cup is a good starting method. I start all my seeds that way even though they don't always go into the ground. You can leave your seeds in a cup for a long time before you have to transplant them. By the time you drop them in the soil they should be healthy enough to deal with any bug attacks unless its something like a locust swarm. I haven't heard of too many of those where you live so you should be golden. Good luck buddy! I'll be keeping touch with this thread.

Yeah, I do believe some filthy insects got ahold of my poor Apollo's. Neem Oil, huh? Damn, that's a great idea! Thank God for this website, because I wouldn't have thought of that on my own. I've got alot of perlite in the soil mix already. I've also got some Advanced Nutrients on the way. I got a bunch of stuff: Piranha, Tarantula, Voodoo Juice, and Iguana Juice Grow/Bloom. Budless, those were my thoughts exactly. I'm going to leave them in the cup for about two weeks, I might even have to transplant into bigger cups because I really want these C99's to get pretty strong before they go outside. I haven't seen even a single locust around here, so I think I'll be okay with that!
