Finalizing the Design; 20kw, Sealed, 16'w x 48'l

Hey everybody. I've revised my grow room design to reduce lighting from 36kw to 20kw to make things more practical and avoid over lighting. I am uploading the design of the room so that you guys can see the blueprint for what I have in mind. I'm planning to run two rows of 10x air-cooled (AC/DC) 1000w DE lights each.

One thing I'm not sure of- is how to size the exhaust fans so that there isn't a large heat buildup. Surely, I'd need more than just 8" fans which is what i've used in the past for 4000w strings of lights. Should I run 12" fans with reducers, or is there a better way for rows with ten lights? In the following equipment list, I included 12" fans but it can change if needed. Should I use insulated ducting? I'm worried that may effect my ability to lower or raise the lights...

I have a few other questions before ordering up the equipment needed.

1. Does this look like a well planned room; do you see anything left out, or flaws that should be addressed? Anything you would change? (Other than growing in soil/coco, things I don't want to do)

2. (this is my main concern at the moment) What is the proper a/c setup for this design? I have heard various suggestions from 4-8 tons. We are air cooling the lights, drawing air from the workroom so that we do not exhaust our Co2 into the sky. I'm hoping to get away with using one 5 ton excel stealth split ductless system on the roof, but I'm afraid that might not be enough cooling.

3. I am planning to use two UCE24XL hydroponic systems, one on each side of the room. My question is, should I go with the current culture nutes, or should I stick with what I know works for me (H&G Aqua flakes+ Full HG additive line) Do any of you have experience using the UC setup?

4. Concerning Reflectors- Do any of you have experience running the AC/DC reflectors? Do you think with 8' ceilings running 1kw lights with the 8 gal UC buckets I will be able to control the canopy. Worst case scenario I turn them down to 600w...

Here's my equipment list. Let me know if I left out anything important, or if you see any obvious mistakes. Minor stuff isn't included such as light hangers, because my supplier includes the little stuff like that for free, but if I left anything major out, besides a/c since I'm undecided at this point, let me know.

20x Digilux (SE/DE) 1000W Digital Ballast

20 Sun System 8" Double Ended Air-Cooled Reflector

20 Ushio Super HPS 1000W Double-Ended Bulb

20 Solis Tek Metal Halide DE Lamp - 1000w 6K

20 Nanolux Cloud Control NCCS Remote Terminal Unit (RTU)

2 Nanolux Cloud Control NCCS Data Transfer Unit (DTU)

2 Phresh Filter 12" x 48", 2200 CFM

4 Fantech FKD Series Inline Centrifugal Fan, 12" XL (2013 CFM)

1 Titan Controls Hyperion 1 Wireless Environmental Controller

1 Quest Dual 105 Overhead Dehumidifier

12 Gale Force 16" Oscillating Wall Mount Fan

1 Titan Controls Ares 10: Ten Burner CO2 Generator

2 UCE24XL Current Culture Under Current Evolution 24 XL

2 AutoPot FlexiTank 200 Gallon res

2 Eco Plus 1 HP Commercial Grade Water Chiller

2 10' x 100' - 5.5mil Panda Film

48 MODCAGE Current Culture Mod Cage

Hopefully this is a good plan. I am planning on ordering everything sometime this week so would love to hear your guy's opinion on this idea before I make it happen. It's larger than what I'm used to, and my first time running a sealed room, so would love to get some good input from those of you who have run big rooms before.

It's good to be back! :tiphat:

More fans, use Orca not panda, split the room in 2 as you don't have enough power, usally 5000 btu per Gavita (I cant help with air cooled), sealed rooms need dehumidifiers That small quest will not handle it for night time, I've ran 205's on a 12 and they are barley sufficient. A/c running all day means their is also a need for a humidifier. Hang your can fans, they work better the higher they are... Plan for floods!!!

I might suggest going with two mini splits instead of one, since its such a long room you will get better circulation of the cool air with splits at both ends. Also sealing up your hoods super tight will help a ton, I have no experience with the AC/DC hoods, but when I sealed up my 8k that was one of the points where we lost CO2. The gap between the glass and the hoods was just big enough to suck the CO2 right out...took me 3-4 tanks to figure out why it was going so quick.

Also I think you will be able to control the canopy, it will take a lot of trellis work, but definitely do able. Also...I have no experience with either nutrient line, but I say stick with what you know just to minimize variables when moving to a new room. You will have plenty to deal with as is...

Cheers

Rule of thumb is 5000 BTU/1000w. That's 100,000 btu [100000 divided by 12 = 8.33 ton]. For all the work of air cooling all those lamps, I'd be likely to run open hoods and get a little more AC power. Good luck. -granger

I have built multiple rooms using the gavitas and acde hoods and with 8ft ceiling height you will need to keep the plants bushy not tall or you will burn them . I kept my lights on average about 3 ft above the plant tops just for reference .

You will need at least 10 tons of ac for that room 1 ton per 2 lights will give you the control you want and need .

Your humidity build up is what you will have to deal with in a room that size running a hydro system and C02.

update: first harvest was pretty weak due to rough start of infested clones from a shitty clone vendor and trying to eradiacte them with organic products. Yeild from 10kw was about 3.8lb, embarrassingly low. However there is several pounds of unfinshed lowers and I am looking to process those into concentrates. Plants were overvegged and constant pest battle was pretty discouraging. Was hard to resist whipping out the avid/flora and handling biz but we are trying to do things clean green, pass ommp testing. etc.

second half of the room ( I have each 10kw sectioned off) is doing much better yeild wise but humidity is in mid 50's so I am having PM issues. Resisting using eagle20 of course due to wanting to be omri organic and clean green, and have tried nukem (omri organic ) and now greencure ( also omri) . Hopefully that can get them through the next week or so until harvest. I gotta say this stuff is weak compared to the heavy duty dow/monsanto stuff. :D Anyway- wanted to give an update of how things are going ill post some images soon. First half of the grow was disappointing hoping the PM in the second half can be eradiacted. Don't want to fail testing.

I ended up going with 2x dual 205 dehumidifers and 2x 4 ton Mitsubishi ductless split systems. humidity is fine during lights on but during lights off they cannot keep it at 40% where i want it and it creeps into mid 50's causing PM issues. Going to make a separate post about it, its my main concern at this point. Like I said pics coming soon.
