awesome thanks a lot time youve been a tremendous help...

edit: wait so if the growing tip i left isnt growing, it means ive cut too much and basically just topped it as opposed to FIM'd it right?

p.s. pure kief joints = major stoooonne!

FIM'ng is soo daym hard for me.. Ill either cut to high and f'up the new fan leaf growth or ill just top the mf'er..
I need to find that happy medium, i need to figure out how to FIM..

exactly....if you pulled the top off and 2 shoots came up from the sides right below it you just did normal topping....when u fim you grab the top but instead of pulling the stem and all you leave a little bit of leaf on the stem....you still get the 2 shoots you got now but the top will fix itself and grow again meaning you'll have atleast 3 shoots now....but when it fixes itself it splits into mulitple shoots most of the time.

good luck

FIM is way to easy guys, just start out by leaving about a centimeter of leaf on the top.....if you grow outside i'm sure you FIM on accident and don't even know....it was discovered by a grower that did a sloppy job at topping. even if you've done alot of topping period you've FIM before.

YES. that is correct.

if you dig deep enuf yall see a thread or two here with ganked og faq pics on fim :p

also, if you check the tokers den i have a thread called "-==GROW FAQ SUBMISSIONS==-" whwere the entire og faq has been copied over for those in need after the armaggedon that just happened..:canabis: let us know (in the right forum) if theres anythinmg else you need help with :)

ey,

i got the same prob. as big mike:badday:

i can never fim ON PURPOSE, it only happens when i am not thinking about it:chin:

hence the name.....FIM (Fuck I Missed).:bat:

ill try but my pics kida suck to demonstrate, maybe ill search for thAt thread later on..

FIM: (note lower right branch, kinda tuff2see the new growth)

the plant on the left hand side in the below pic shows the same topped plant as above, a bit later..
the pic shows toppin at the 2nd/3rd node, however,
it's better to do it at the 4th or 5th on most strains to further increase yields --

hope this helps

see jacks bottom pic of the plant on the left...see where the main stem goes up but then splits in 2...thats where he topped it...it quit growin but split into 2 shoots...if it was FIM it would of done the same except not stop growin on the main stem...it would of fixed itself and probably split into a few more shoot too, along with the 2 that original go up from the normal topping.

Awesome, captain and jack you guys rock! thanks for the pics, I think I see now.. I guess the only question I have left is which is better, FIM or Topping? I mean I have this theory about everything having to balance out (actually its not my theory its some physics law about conservation of matter or something), so im guessing that FIM splits off into many smaller branches, whereas topping splits off into two branches but they are sturdier and carry more branching potential? hope i make sense im stoned and sleep deprived

p.s. sorry not trying to hijack the thread id just rather avoid having to start a new thread

lol.
birds of a feather, i never came out of the closet with it but i hold the same theory and always have....until the plant is mature (alternating nodes)

.........................................................

only FIM if you have enough veg time for the plant to recover and grow a bit or you risk sacrificing some final dry weight (strain dependant, and your op)

be well:canabis:

if you are doing some huge crazy oudoor.... can you fim the growth that comes out of the fim and so on, making like a medusa looking plant with like 20 colas being like 15 tall?

Tarbosh, keep in mind that plants have a genetic limit which will determine how successful topping/FIM is at improving your yeild... blueberry for example yeilds better when topped, but some strains dont like it

you sure can....i get well over 20 especially if you get a nice early jump on it. the only thing i've noticed is normally an untopped plant will give you the biggest cola...only because it gets to put all it's energy in basically one big bud, then you do topping or FIM you'll get more buds but not the super monster 1 cola buds just nice average-big buds, when you do massive amounts of topping or FIM the plant has to use so much energy to so many spots that you'll get way more buds but they will be smaller in size, i'm a huge fan of FIM but you can also over do it, also never do it during budding....it delays flowering big time.

The ultimate question then is does it actually increase yield and not just bud sites?
