Good afternoon pop_rocks.i hear you fiddy
defoliation can be a very touchy subject in some circles
i think there are so many variables to consider that there is no one way to grow the kine
also what might work with one strain will not necessarily be the best for another
and then add in that all of our grow rooms have a unique micro climate and you are really muddying the water
as far as hormones go, do some reading on auxins
i recall hearing about them in a biology class a long time ago and kind of took interest
im no expert but its a good place to start
definitely post up anything you find or even questions you might hvae
maybe we can figure this one out together
yeah, two months is a long time to veg
maybe you can veg for that long, take cuts and prune the plant down and then put it into flower
that way it will have an enormous root system already in place but wont be too big a plant to manage
@floridian
how everythign going on your end brother?
i used to be the king of the cheap dates
good mexican food, a couple fatties* and a walk on the beach and its on!
i know the all the best spots to watch the submarine races
*sometimes i would even roll a j or two
In my reading about defoliation the last couple days I've come across some good info. I learned that buds do photosynthesize and make their own energy. They are probably not as efficient as fan leaves but the energy doesn't have to transfer to them and that saves energy. Also the sugar leaves right up against the buds give them energy as well. It got me thinking about how the light effects the distribution of the hormones and how everything interacts. Some reading is still in order and I'm just starting to get an understanding of how the different jormones interact. My interest lies in keeping the balance of those hormones and maybe manipulation of them to get my plants to stay a little shorter.
A great informative thread I found here is called "plant hormones (FYI)" by I.M. Boggled. Lots of great info and some good contributions from others in this thread as well. https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=17596
Another good one is called "shaggy's guide to hormones used in cannabis" by shaggyballs. Lots more good stuff. https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=281272
Shaggy seems to focus more on how the addition of hormones affects the plants but has a lot of good info. I'm more interested in getting the most out of the hormones already in the plant to get it as happy as possible. Also finding natural ways to increase hormones in plants that help them get bigger and frosty buds.
I'm a long away from understanding how all these hormones interact but there are more bits and pieces of info in the above threads and others. These are complex interactions that aren't easily understood by someone without a lot of education on the subject. I have a lot more to read and learn. I'll keep looking and report back with anything interesting that I find.
I'm going to have to roll with the changes on the GB's. If I veg them that long and have huge roots I may need even bigger pots I'm thinking to avoid root bound. And if the root system is that much bigger will they stretch a lot more? Not sure. I'm also unsure how many GB's I'm going to end up with. 2/7 are looking not good and not growing much. If I end up with 5 how many lady's will I get? Not sure. If I only get 2 girls for instance I'd want to use bigger pots and more training so that they fill my space. And if I have to take the tent down how long will it be to diagnose and repair the well and then do I have to monitor it for a while to make sure it's fixed. It would be a shame to set everything back up only to have the problem return right away and have to take everything down again. Just going to have to play this one by ear and see how everything shakes out.
Hahah a couple fatty's and maybe even roll a joint lol. That's funny. Lots of farm fed fatty's around here.
